|\||554|\| fanboys -- Road Test: 2003 Infiniti G35 Sedan

I like everything but the back end... the reverse lights just seem a little out of place. and the trunk looks to small.
other than that its a really nice car. The fact that it and the 350Z share the same platform make it even cooler.

quarter-mile in 14.7 seconds at 95.1..

not bad, i'd expect more from a car with 260hp/260tq though.

For comparison:

BMW 330i with 225 HP; 14.6 sec @ 97.0
BMW 330xi with 225 HP; 14.4 @ 96.0

the BMW330i is a pretty tight car.

i guess for 30k the G35 is pretty nice. I'm not much of a luxary car person, but this is pretty sporty. I still like the older G20 the best.

G20 is too slow. I'd take a used Audi A4 1.8t 😀

I've seen several of these on the roads already. Nice cars.

I went to the Infinity dealer almost 2 months ago and they had a promo unit. I sat in it and fiddled around. The interior isn't great or anything, but its nice.

Also, you'll notice that people with 2k2 Maximas are getting low 14s in the 1/4 with their cars. I'm sure once some people who know how to drive this car get it down to the track, We'll see similar, if not better times.

<< Keep the throttle planted, and the G whizzes past the quarter-mile in 14.7 seconds at 95.1 miles per hour, handily beating both of those cars (both of whom ran it in 15.1 seconds at 93.6 mph). >>

"both" meaning the 330i and TL-S

We'll wait for the 6 speed and see better times.

Go read other reviews from around the web.

The numbers quoted above are from MT.

C&D cites 14.8 sec and 95 MPH for the 330i. It varies from publication to publication. And remember, not every car or tester is the same.

I was behind one of these today on my way into work. Rear end looks kind of funky. But Change Is Good!

the G20 might be slow, but i like the style of it A LOT more than the g35.

the audi A4 is a really nice looking car too, as a matter of fact, it's the only audi i like. Probably one of the the only european cars i like.

Straight rom C&D.

If the Infiniti G35 had been available for a road test when we rounded up the current crop of mid-size sports sedans and braved the backwoods of West Virginia ("36 on the Floor," February 2002), it would have outrun all those seven hot sedans to 60 mph, to 100, and through the quarter-mile.

Infiniti's greatest hope for the future would also have gone on to post the second-highest top speed among the Audi A4 3.0 Quattro, BMW 330i, Cadillac CTS, Jaguar X-type 3.0, Lexus IS300, Lincoln LS, and Saab 9-3 Viggen.

btw, the article goes on to say beautiful things about the G35. No mention of the "Sentra Interior".
And it would've out-performed all the other cars in automatic, while costing thousands less than the closest priced competitor.

What's your point???? I gave numbers showing that the 330i was being showed as SLOWER in C&D and FASTER at MT. And I even stated that numbers vary from publication to publication b/c no two cars are alike as are no two drivers.

So again, what's your point? As for it being faster in a manual, I don't see it being TOO much faster than the 5-speed Altima (even with the extra gear of the G35).

And from that same C&D article (re: interior):
Lows: Why again must we wait to shift our own gears? Touchy brakes and steering, some less-than-luxury interior pieces.

There are strange, tiny triangular cubbies sprouting from the center stack. There are two small glove boxes instead of one large one. There's a deep, covered cubby at the top of the center stack (assuming you don't get the $2000 optional navigation system). The dash vents rotate up and down in a motion similar to twisting a shirt cuff around your wrist. The downside is they feel pretty cheap doing so. And there's a piece of plastic mounted to the headliner above the driver's door with a slit in it to hold your parking card(s). We know this because imprinted on the plastic are the words "card holder."

I think the thing looks pretty schweet. For some reason it reminds me of the Lexus GS, from the front at least. I think it's the shape of the headlights and the very short front overhang. And at 30k, it's pretty well-priced too IMO. I agree with the others who said the back doesn't look right. The back of the passenger compartment just goes very far back. I guess this is part of the aerodynamic shaping of the car? (they didn't state the drag coefficient but isn't it supposed to be very good?)

The rear actually looks a bit better with the spoiler (as pictured in this road test). Should be a hell of a package for the money. I would still prefer a 330i, but that is a smaller and much costlier car when comparably equipped.

This car should have been called J35, not G35.
It's basically a new version of J30, not G20. J30 was 4 door version of the 300ZX, and this is the 4 door version of Z350
Still, J30 is the best looking Japanese sedan ever made. G35 came close, but rear end is not that nice. It's not bad, but nothing special.
