Its a body control module. Does anyone know how much a repair book would cost to see if I could repair it myself? I did find a used Body Control Module at a place but this car repair place says that they will not put in a used part. Should I try a different place that would? Worth it? Just eat the $550 and have the stuff working? What are your thoughts? I'm a poor college student.

Please keep your domestic car comments to yourself, I plan on selling the car when I get back home and buying a foreign car.

**UPDATE** I was told that I needed to look under the steering wheel panel for this silver or black box and the only box that I see is the "Bulldock Security" which I believe is for my remote start. Does the remote start replace the body control module? **

Thanks for reading as always,
Stu

It should be really easy to replace the body control module. You just have to find it and put the new one in.

I have the GM repair manuals at home. I can scan the pages for you, if you want me to. The books are like $75 for the set.

What year is yours?

There's nothing really "mechanical" involved other than a few bolts to hold it in and unplugging electrical connectors.

By the way, that's a sweet car. Is it the V8?

It's a love / hate car. It's nice to drive, and the best road trip car I've ever used. However, when something goes wrong, it's not cheap. I've yet to fix something that was cheap or average priced on that car.

1996 Olds Aurora, that would be great if you could scan that for me! I wonder how hard it is.

It is a great car, I love all the luxuries of it, when it works one hundred percent it works like a dream.

Like someone else mentioned, just get the service manual (itd be cheaper to buy them than have someone else fix it).

I think its to prevent the driver from turning into a fat, old, balding Olds driver.

I will replace myself. Lets hope the car repair place is right in that it is actually the body control module. I appreciate your thoughts.

My parents have a 97 I think. It's been headaches galore for them. Fuel guage died, the wires running into the door for the seat controlls cracked, remote trunk release is finicky at best, now the radiator is leaking...

Yeah, its time to get rid of the car.....as soon as I get back to Wisconsin it will be high on my priority list of things to do before school starts.
