In Math

I guess I should put in more effort, this is quite unsatisfactory. I just barely got by the first term with a 60, and now 55.. It's better than I expected actually, but still dissapointing. I guess it's not like last year when I could get 92 without doing anything.

I am in Math 436 (Grade 10 advanced), I am in Grade 11 (Graduating).. Kind of sad on my part, but if I pass everything I've got it all planned out. Now I just have to make sure I don't botch up the year.. I've already screwed my first chance though, since CEGEP (college) applications are due by March, and they look at the first two term marks.. they will see 60 and 55% in math, I won't be the first person they accept, that's for sure.

Don't let it get to ya. I'm in the same boat. I don't put enough effort in to it. Anyway, I have a chance to make it up next year in OAC.

I feel ya, i'm in the same situation as you almost.

I'm 11th grade, taking Alg2/TRIG (3/4 class is 10th graders) and I'm getting the lowest grade, a 64%, I just took the final yesterday, I did pretty well IMO. I was trying for a C, but I had to get a 94% on the final to get a passing grade of 70%, not possible, so I tried to keep that D. I won't get into a UC, which is sad. It was my goal 2 years ago, now I got to go to a community college for 2 years, work ass hard, then up to a UC hopefully.

I had a D in my geometry but I tried real hard to bring it up and now I have a B in there. Just keep trying, too bad I got a F on my Spanish final, LOL...

I'm finishing up grade 12 math (finals on monday). If I do really well in OAC (it's an extra year you take on highschool, I need it to get in to a University) I'll be accepted in to a University.

Anyway, I suggest you guys do really well on Grade 12 (if you are going to college or Uni). I won't be here next year, cause I really need to focus on my future. I'm so addicted to ATOT, I don't know if I can leave this place.

Well I know I can do really well if I actually tried, I have gotten excellent marks before, without much effort.. I just can't bring myself to do the work all the time, I'm too inconsistent, and it pisses me off. I'm hoping to change something so I can break that habit.. I CAN NOT continue doing that through college.

It makes no sense to me; slack, work hard, cruise, graduate.... something like that? Why not just get your life handed to you?

Put forth a solid effort day in and day out and you can accomplish anything you want.

I don't know what you have in Canada, but a community college might be the right answer.

You sound a lot like how I was in high school (can't ever remember having a whole lot of homework). I slacked off a lot, and did pretty bad in math (failing a final, yet still passing the class in my junior year).

What I did was apply at a community college (where anyone can get accepted). Then from there, I transferred the next year (some stay for two to get their associates) to a four year school and am having the time of my life. See, at a community college, you're in the mindset that you should work hard because technically, you might still live at home with your parents, but can also prepare you for when you move away.

Plus, when you transfer to a four year school, you only list your college credits and grades, no high school (as far as I know). So do good in college, and most likely you'll have a better chance at acceptance, plus the possibility of a scholarship! And most of the time, if your GPA in college is really good, it can almost wipe away the SAT/ACT score (as mine was a tad bit below average: 22 on ACT).

Go ahead and apply to the school, you won't lose anything (other than money), but it's worth a shot. It all depends on what kind of school you're wanting to go to. Look at the acceptance rate and see where you would rank. In some schools, acceptance only means you got a scholarship. If you pony up the money, they'll be more than glad to take you.
