$55 for Razer Barracuda HP-1 8-Channel Gaming Headphones

I need new headphones, too.... Tempting.

How much better are these, though? All I do is play games.. I currently have some decent Plantronics (going out though)

The 8-channel thing is a misprint, these are only 5.1 (6 channel) headphones. They are fairly nice though, I picked up a pair from woot awhile ago for around $60

Note, the microphone on these isn't that great, atleast when coupled with most onboard audio chipsets, I run my microphone from these through the usb adaptor from a pair of plantronics for adequate sound quality.

Most of the audiophiles and myself will tell you to look elsewhere for good sound. If gaming is the only thing you're looking for, then these will likely suit you well. They're not too good for multimedia though so beware. IMO the much better deal lies in the JVC HA-RX900s which not only sound better, but are higher quality and are around the same price (without a microphone).

Rally master,
Im looking specifically for surround sound (5.1 style) headphones for gaming only.

Do those JVC 's provide directional info for gaming?

thanks.

They do for me.

Gotta agree. I always hear people bashing multi-channel gaming headphones.

I have a pair of ha-rx 700 (step down from ha-rx 900) and they are great. Only cost me $33 too.

All surround sound headphones are junk. They use multiple small crappy drivers around your ears to simulate sound nowhere close to the real surround sound. A good pair of stereo headphones will give you much better sound quality for games (including directional info), movies and music. If you really want surround sound on headphones, just get DSP effect plugins for your music/video player.

I have heard a lot of good things about this device. Apparently this is one of the better solutions to surround sound headphones.
