53C on the GPU

Im getting 53C on my 6600GT, while my CPU (Althon 64 3200+) is around 26C. My case temps are about 35C. Do you think I have to reseat my GPU? Is it safe to run? Im a newbie...

GPUs tend to run pretty darn hot. Seems pretty normal to me.

That Hot?
Damn, Time to run UT.

My 6600gt is 44 degrees according to the monitoring program in the drivers.

you're fine.

Good for you. Too bad it's not a valid comparison.

@anthony

If you can add an intake fan in the vicinity of the vid card (say, on the side of the case, if your case has a ventilation hole there), that would probably help.

It is a valid comparison cause the OP compared his CPU temp to his GPU temp. THAT is not a valid comparison.

I was simply stating that GPUs run hotter than CPUs.

6800GTs cun around ~80-90*C.

He's fine. That's all I was saying.

You're comparing 2 completely different cards (one that notoriously runs hot compared to one that's not). Apparently that point went right over your head.

Your CPU isn't @ 26C.

Not with air cooling anyway.

Likely the sensor is screwed, or you live in a very cold area or have icey a/c.

Now i see you mention your case temps are 35C.

Your case is 26C; CPU 35C.

Video card is fine too BTW.

I ran unreal demo, high setting with 1280 x 1024 res, and got the card up to 75C ish. As everyone is pointing out that is safe. Switching the CPU and Case makes more sense.

Ok...thats a lil scarey, mine is idle at a maximum of 51-53C under load....I've never seen it go over 53C, why is yours 80C?...

My 6600GT is at 60C - idle and 72C - under load. I guess it depends on the room temps. With a couple of fans I can lower 3-5C, but not too much. And the CPU is at 34C (A64 3200+). As long as I'm under 75C, I'm going to be OK.

As long as you're not having stability problems, or artifacts, any temp is fine. That's basically the result of this thread. My personal choice, however, is to keep my cards as air-cooled as possible, as heat kills, period.

My 6800GT keeps hitting 84-86 when playing BF 2 so your card sounds fine. It will reset my comp when it hits 88. Darn NV silencer is just not working as well as it used to. I may have to redo the AS 5 and ceramique...
