A buddy was telling me ealier tonite that he had gotten a twin-pack of pc4000 last month for $60 after a $20mir and that the stuff is bulletproof for him. He likes the fact that they put heatsinks on them. That was two 256mb sticks and his board is running rock solid overspec.

Bulletproof as in?? Is he overclocking?? If so, how much did he push the RAM to?

512 DDR500 $69.99 AR

Update: I ordered a stick of this just to check it out and to have it when I get ready for a new setup. I'm underclocking it on a SOYO KT333 Ultra Platinum board. At default voltage even set at SPD it was unstable. Ran memtest86 and it was OK. Upped the voltage to 2.7 and it has run with no problems. Thought I might be able to run it at DDR333 speed at 2-2-2-6-1T but wasn't. It's running at CAS 2.5 3-3-7-1T with no problems whatsoever. I haven't tried playing with the settings or upping the voltage any further. Seems to be very good RAM though. Unlike some of the PC3200 this was not supposed to be extreme low latency. I am thinking it will do well enough on a DDR400 board. Maybe they will offer the rebate again soon so I can get another stick cheap.

I may have been overly optimistic when I posted this memory deal. There is a thread over at OverClockers Forums about this memory. (too many pictures, it loads slow on dial-up)

The short form is that red heatsink Dual Channel kits have worked great.

Silver heatsink Extreme Performance memory has worked for one of the two people who have posted their results. The memory that would not run at spec was RMA'd directly to PDP Systems Patriot Memory and replaced with good memory; with red heatsinks.

I have a pair (not a DC kit) with silver heatsinks but still no CPU and mobo. I hope I have the good stuff.

Supposedly the good stuff was built with "no longer obtainable" Winbond BH-5 chips a couple of months ago. If my memory won't do 2-2-2-5, then I'll RMA and probably get the equivalent of the new Mushkin Hi Perf memory with BH-6 or CH-5 chips.

BTW: The memory spec page has been updated to match the newer non-BH-5 modules. The new timings are 2-3-2-5-T1.

Good Luck BadSweetums

If I had known there was a chance of getting BH-5 chips I would have ordered some of the Low Latency PC3200 memory. I am satisfied, however with the 512 PC4000 stick I got for $69.99 after a $20 rebate.
