512MB Patriot PC3200 Dual Kit at Outpost.com, $39.99 after MIR

The text reads as if it is 2 x 512, but it is actually 2 x 256 (which would be right at this price).

However, the reason I recommend you AVOID this deal is that you'll have to work HARD to get your rebate.

The company will probably NOT send you a check until you follow up with them (probably more than once), and it will be a company check, which is always a sign of a company not really looking to pay its rebates.

If you're willing to take the risk, it's not a bad add-on for the Seagate 120 gig drive and 300 gig drive that Outpost also has for sale through tomorrow.

And, if you can believe it, you can already pre-order the next Harry Potter book (the manuscript was just turned into the published on Tuesday!).

Good luck!

I'm looking at the rebate form and it says you get a $35 rebate on a paired kit. This, to me, says if you buy the package, you will get two 512MB PC3200 sticks and a rebate check for $35, making the total cost for the two $39.99

this definitely looks like a price mistake, but according to its description it looks legit and I don't see why they wouldn't honor it. If anything I would say you could dispute it with your CC company. Anybody jumping? I could totally use a gig

oh wait... looking back you're right, it IS a pair of 256 sticks!!! NEVER MIND but thanks anyway!!

its 2- 256 sticks, everyone words it like that now days, cause 512 catches the eye better then 2-256

its somewhat missleading but you see it everywhere like that now, but the good retailers make clear in the description its 2-256 sticks

I bought this in FRY's on Thursday, so according to you I wont get the rebates. Is it advisable to return it.

You'll probably have to fight them to get the rebate. I had to fight OM for 7 months to get a rebate of mine from them earlier this year.

I purchased items from Fry's which the rebates are from companies I have never heard of before, they eventually pay out but you need a few calls and emails to remind them.

Why are you going to return it? It's just $35 and the worst thing that's going to happen is you have to make a call/email or two. If the RAM works for you and runs at the speed stated then I see no worries about waiting a little longer for your rebate check then usual.

Fry's will back all rebates of products they sell.

Make copies of reciepts, upcs, shipping dates, etc. and take them to Fry's when they reject your rebate.

I purchased a stick of Patriot DDR500 memory a year ago or so from Outpost.com and it had a Patriot $20 rebate. It took a while but I got it. Also, I didn't call them up and bother them about it. I wouldn't rate the memory as being anything other than average, definitely not an overclocker's choice but OK.
