512MB or 1GB of ram?

Short answer: No
Not as short answer: No, unless you do a lot of video/3D modeling/Photoshop type stuff. Basically working with huge files a lot. But for what you list, you will not see a difference.
 
More than 512MB of memory for gaming isn't really worth it. It is possible there is some kind of tangible increase with a move from 512MB to 756MB, but I highly doubt it. Games are much more sensitive to memory clockspeed as opposed to memory size, past a certain point. 512MB is a good amount for the time being. If you have room to expand to 756MB, that is a good idea. You never know when programs will suddenly become more memory hungry.
