512mb only showing as 256mb?

I have a msi 6167 slot a motherboard and I just got a 512mb sdram stick and it only shows as 256mb when I boot the computer. Anyone know why?

found the manual on msi website and it says, maximum 768mb memory, I just updated the bios to the most recent release and its the same. Couldnt a bios update fix this, or is this limited by the memory controler?

I haven't looked into it, and don't feel like searching... but more than likely most every motherboard that i've come across that has a 768MB limit, consists of 3 DIMM slots, and the max per DIMM slot is 256.

In short, your motherboard won't accept anything over 256MB per DIMM.

256 x 3 = 768MB.
