I have seen the specs and MSRP for the upcoming 7800GTX. My advice to all of you considering a high end video card purchase in the very near future: wait.

In a very short time, you will be as amazed as I was, with cost and specification. Better than I would have even hoped for.

I cannot answer any specific questions, as much as I'd love to spread the good tidings, because this info is under NDA currently.

My guess is this will be the only card you even consider. ;)

cant wait to see this thing flex......if the price is right, and its the same price as ATI's latest offering then since the 7800gtx already gives the x1800xt a damn good run i expect this to be THE best card money can buy

i think ATI have done too little too late with the X1800XT...sure its mega fast but its not significantly faster than a 7800gtx which has been out a good length of time. and just looking at the specs for the 7800 you can tell Nvidia held back. smart play by nvidia...i dont think ATI will have much to answer this new card since they already went balls out on the x1800xt

I predict a new "tweaked" driver released by both sides at the time of the launch (either the xt or the 512 gtx).

The X1800 core is supposed to be able to use much faster RAM than the stuff it's launching with, so there is definitely some scalability there. I'm not sure how much headroom there is on the cores, though. That one group did get one to 1Ghz(!) on liquid nitrogen, but that may or may not actually mean anything wrt 'real world' OCing performance.

Rollo, I just hope this is better info than what you were being told by your inside source about the GF6's PVP issues. :p

the XT is already hitting some damn high clockspeeds, i really wonder how much higher they can go. i'd hope they optimize power consumption and bring out a single slot card with a nice low-noise fan before they go and do this.

I have an idea, tell your nvidia buddies to release a nice 16 pipe 7800 or 7600 for 200$ for those of us who don't work just to support our video game habit :).

The rumors at b3d is 530mhz core and 1.1 ns (1800mhz effective) mem. I'm guessing this better drive down the gtx prices, because if this thing is launched for $700 msrp, few people will be buying one.

At any rate, this is good news, becasue then we can expect either a higher clocked xt (pe) next month or the launch of the r580 early next year.

I was given the white papers on that deal, and at the time I was, I imagine they were still trying to make the nV40 PVPs work as well as the second gen. There was no just chart of which cards do what at that point, I was only supplying you with the best possible info at the time.

I can assure you this info was pretty straightforward and precise.

Dont give us specifics but talk in generalities.

Like let me ask you, is there a core and ram clock speed bump with this new model?

I don't imagine that a regular clocked GTX with an additional 512MB of RAM would be worthy of a:

It's good to hear.

If they can hit MSRP at $499 then they are ahead of the game for another 3 months.

ATi's response will more then likely be late, although they may skip a response altogether and just release the 580 begining of next year as planned.

Once the 512MB's are out for both companies, I'll decide.

EDIT: In other news, the X1850XT PE is coming out tomorrow. Too bad I'm under NDA.:(

I was just trying to point out that even 'inside' information can be misleading or flat-out wrong, too. I hope they can put out a competitive card at a competitive price, if only to lower the prices on some of the other cards down to where us mere mortals can afford them. :p

oh sorry

any way i cant see why not.....the memory can be made, and i was sure from day one that 430mhz was fairly low for G70. up the cooling a bit and i dont see why 500+ cant be achieved

Will the 512MB GTX's longevity be much more than the 256MB version? I'll spend more money if it means I can postgone a future upgrade even longer.

Call them up and demand justice. Say you heard of a new card and would like an extension of a week or so.

Couldn't hurt.
