In today's Merc. 512 MB PC2700 stick for $54.99. Good thru Thursday. Don't buy that obselete Crucial PC2100 when you can get bottom of the barrel third world PC2700 RAM from Fry's. Seriously I've used nothing but the cheapest generic RAM from Fry's for the last 15 years. It works fine.

Well, most of the time Crucial 2100 can run at 2700. Anyway, you are very lucky with your Fry's ram because I have heard that a lot of people have problems with it. But if you can get a stick that runs fine, this is a hot deal.

well, the best way to learn a lesson is to experience it first hand.
I've been through one painful memory's death and it ain't pretty....you got what you paid.
Still $55 is darn cheap for pc2700

Yea these will run at 2700 but probably won't be stable at anything higher.

Gah, if this is that cheap ram. Yah, this stuff only runs 2700 and nothign higher. if i remember correctly, their 6ns chips. Brand was some... generic one. I tried overclocking it, and nope it doesn't overclock. Just a series of beeps.

If yer planning on running this only at 2700 with no overclocking, this is hte ram to get.

surprisingly it has a 1 yr warrantee. ussually u only get 90days.

not bad so far. i'm at 139/139 on my 2000+ oc 2100+. can't seem to go higher, probably cuz i can't tweak cpu voltage+palomino:p ecs m/b not all that hot for oc, but still its not bad at all:)

i wonder what the best mem timings are for this. ecs mb is a pain cuz if u go too far u gotta reset bios using a %@# pin/cap setup inside case. very annoying.

anyone get 133/166 working?

I can get my 1700+ to 2000+ at 147/147 :) I heard that if you do 133/166 it will perform like a 133/133 anyways.

Two things I wont ever go generic on...power supplies and RAM. You can get away with almost everything else.

I have a handful of goofy sticks of RAM in my junkbox, and i'm fairly certain all of it came from fry's. I have a pile of Kingston and Crucial sticks, they keep working until they're completely obsolete.

Purchased it this afternoon- came with a $10 rebate form (that looks kind of iffy- it says it needs the UPC from the box- but there is no UPC on the box).
