Well, I'm not an audiophile of car audio (hope to soon be with my new system), but jensen is known for notorious quality, both spl and sq. For $100 you could do much better and pick up a Alpine Type R and a jbl 150.1 that would do much better than that set I believe. JMO though...

Well, Jensen is good for highs, but not for bass.... for that you need stuff like MTX and Fosgate. I used a Jensen amp on my Pioneer 12's, but when I put a Fosgate amp in (that was less power), the bass boom was better... That is my 2 cents.

If anyone is interested, look on the "For sale/trade" board for the Pioneer subs and Fosgate amp I have up for sale.

I would say that this is not too hot of a deal. This amp is only 50 watts per channel, so i would not recommend using two subs on it. wait for something with a little more power. Jensen isnt too terrible, my first amp was a 300 watt jensen with a jensen 8" bazooka tube. (courtesty of wallmart for about $150). It gave a little thump, but my new Rockford Fosgate totally annihilates (sp?) my first system.
Moral of the story: jensen might be ok for a first time car audio buyer, but anyone with an existing system will laugh at you.

.02 for my 02 post.

If you want something to put noise This is the perfect setup. If you want something that will put out some decent sound you do not want this. This is junk and you can always find deals like this going on. This stuff is mostly made for all the 16 year olds who want a cheap system in there car and are broke. Soon after they will realize it sounds horrible and move up to some decent equipment. I am somewhat of a car audio nut and started out on cheap isht like this, and strongly suggest everyone else NOT to do the same as I did, because it only costs you more in the long run.

Jensen isn't bad for highs, but I wouldn't use them for lows... Reliable, but doen't have the capacity (no pun intended) for bass. RF *IS* the way to go!

This is a decent deal for someone that isn't into super bass and wants a decent, inexpensive setup. Not great sound quality, but Jensen stuff seems to be built pretty tough. I have never heard these subs though so maybe they are crappy. Probably decent for a non-audiophile that is short on cash though. By the way I love my PPI A404 and 2 12" JL's. Drives a 2 ohm load with absolutely no problem.

jensen = suck
RF = suck

i like diamond/focal/nakamichi

Its kind of nice to know more than that you just think something sucks... why exactly do you think rockford fosgate sucks? Most people that I have heard say that havent really had much of a reason to back it up, but im definatley interested in hearing an objective opinion.... Im not into the fanboy brand loyalty stuff...

Fanboy brand loyalty is suck ;)

Here's an objective opin^H^H^H^H analysis.

Good bass is a numbers game. Ya gotta move air, pure and simple.
It is very easy to model and predict performance based on T/S parameters and the envorinment the driver will operate in.
That said, the previous poster has a point - RF's numbers really aren't that great, and the drivers I've measured from RF were way overstated.
I've never measured any Jensen drivers.

Focal makes nice drivers, but they are _way_ overpriced. You can do better for a lot less $$ in the sub department.

JL subs have good parameters, if you can believe JL's claims.

I would suggest:
Dayton DVC 12 - this driver is essentially an improved copy of the Avatar Shiva from awhile back. The Dumax results for the DVC don't lie (unlike most car audio manufacturers).
I run a stereo pair of these for HT.

For the money, I'll also suggest Ulitimate/Attitude and Peerless woofers. Relatively cheap, and pretty good numbers.

I'll probably get flamed for not suggesting the big names of car-fi, but I really don't care.
I measure how my drivers perform, not marketing BS.

jensen is suck

Rotorvator, can you say, www.partsexpress.com hehe. shiva? can you say, www.adireaudio.com hehe. get your ass back in the hometheatertalk forum! im very tempted to see how the shiva performs in car, but im definitely gonna build one for home. i just got my canare DYI cables and crimp tools yay. can you say, monstercable killer =P

btw, are you talking about partsexpress #295-185 12"dvc 350rms/coil (700rms!). its exactly the same as the shiva? $119.80.. 5year warranty too. id like to see a car sub with that kind of commitment. too bad they dont have a 2ohm dvc since i wanna move to a single 500w 12 1cuft in my trunk

k.. the guy who started this thread obviously isn't into building a competition grade system. So why are you guys bringin up names like Xtant/McIntosh/Zapco/Diamond/Focal/Nak? Those components cost way way way more than he's looking to spend.

Bottom line, you get what you pay for when it comes to car audio (and most other things when you think about it)

Yes, that's the one. Not exactly the same as the shiva, more like taking the shiva design and improving upon it (haven't looked closely at the shiva mkII tho). They also did this with the Titanic - took the numbers for the NHT 1259 (my previous sub), and made them *just a little bit better*. If you're interested in the DVC, Watch the PE DOD regularly - they'll occasionally mark this driver down to the $100 range. It's a great driver.

If you find a 12" sub that works well in 1 ft^3, let us all know!

Threads drift. They've been doing so for as long as I've been on the net, and most likely always will.

Bottom line - not necessarily.
