i burn 3-4 cds a day and get about a 5-8% failure rate. One of these i just bought gave me a random positioning error (whats that?) on my second burn, but the cd was still good and i just reburned it (who knows). having 200 cds to catalog is no fun

I have burnt many many cdrs.
And I really have not encountered a problem with any particular dye.
I wotn argue there could be a difference.
But if you are going to burn a coaster because of a system fault, or some other problem, I dont think it matters what your cdrs are made out of.
And the difference in price is menial most of the time.
How many of you smoke? ;)
Its a pack or two difference.
only my opinion

Does this have a scratch proof layer? I'm not sure if the dark green color on bottom indicates this layer. Does the packaging ever say this?

Got my 50 yesterday. Yes, they are GOOD. I burned like 10 now - work perfect. they are not green on the bottom. It looks to my like between golf and Silver. They are very hard to scrach - i tried one with my keys - almost 0 damage. I like the cds very much and i will order 100 more.

Hey Chibimike, my statement that all cdr's sound same the same is true provided they are recorded with no digital error as you pointed out.

In fact, most of my audio CDR's have been recorded using Exact Audio Copy (EAC)which is a new digital audio extraction (DAE) tool for Windows. The main difference between EAC and other audio grabbers is that EAC uses a new technology that performs DAE almost perfectly. If there are any errors that canot be corrected, EAC will report the time position the possible flaw occurred, so you can easily correct the flaw. Although most of my audio burns have none, really.

Consequently, having overcome the digital error problems, all brands of CDR's I've burned sounded identical. However, I don't buy your statement about low reflective CDR's sounding a lot worse, not in my experience anyway.

I ordered 4 of these. They are not blank on top as shown in the picture. They have the Smart Buy logo and other information in black ink. Very disappointing because the writing shows through on labels.

Wanted to point out that a new blank CDR on the market is totally dark. I think they called them black discs.

Surely, if low contrast was a problem with burners, you would never see these black cdr's on the market.

Maybe I'll buy a few and post results.

Okay I posted earlier I bought 100 of these CDR's (2x50pk) and I've gone through about 70 of these CDR's. Besides the annoying "grating" feeling these cd's have when rubbed against each other I've had no problem with them. I've burned ONE coaster in 70 and that's was because of a dumb mistake on my part. I've been burning CD's for friends for the past few weeks and they haven't had any problems with the CD's I've burned for them. Also another good deal I'm going to try today is over at Best Buy they have some Memorex CDR's 50pk for $17 bucks.. BUT they ring up at 13 bucks and have a 15 dollar mail in rebate. Going to pick up a few of these and give you guys a hollar if they work out.

Compgeeks is a GREAT company, ive bought from them for well over a year now and gotten lots of great stuff. They sell on onsale.com alot (can we say 4button USB mouseman mice for $12. Anyway, ive used a bunch of their 8x media and bought 3 spindles of thte 12x which i havn't used yet but i assume they are as good a quality as all the stuff they sell. They are a very trustworthy company (btw they are selling plextor ultraplex 40's for $53 right now!!!!!!!!!1
