I don't think we're on the same page about perspective, unless you're really clueless about lens.
Wide angle lens tend to stretch things out, while telephoto lens tend to compress things. That's what I'm talking about when I say perspective.

Check out that image to see what I'm talking about.

Ahhh! You linked to two images where the photographer MOVED HIS POSITION in order to create a different perspective. You associate a lens with perspective only b/c you are ignoring the fact that the images with different perspectives were taken at different distances to the subject.

That's why the example I linked to is better. It keeps distance constant and blows up the center crop in order to show that there is NO perspective difference between a 33mm and 80mm lens.

I get what you're talking about now.. I just read the link again..

So all that typing was worth it ;)?

Now that we agree (I think), nice pictures!

There are some perspective issues shooting people at close range with a 50mm. Namely nose to face and hand to face perspectives aren't quite normal, therefore can look a bit odd. DOF is also a factor which you mentioned, the flattening/widening distortion can be either a plus or minus to the subject, but for technical accuracy 85-105 manages to best capture these perspectives.
