50C IDLE?!!!!!

i have an SLK-7, a galaxy blue LED fan on it, arctic silver also on the 2500 barton, STOCK SPEEDS. when i first got this setup, i was in the 30's most of the time, now im in the upper 40's and 50's. i took my HSF off today and cleaned off the dust and re-appled AS, and my temps didnt go down at all. what the heck is the problem?

rig in sig.

what is your case temp? if that is too high then all the CPU cooling in the world won't help. Do u have at least one exhaust fan?

-Josh

my mobo is 33C. i have 2 intake fans, 2 exhaust fans, my HSF obviously, and a PSU fan. i thought it was sufficient...

wow. i wouldn't have a clue. The heatsink is on the correct way, right?

i thought my sonata had bad cooling and bad airflow. But after seeing you having higher temps with all those fans make me less worried about my temps.

Wow that is an odd problem. Like Sid59, it would most likely be the hsf being seated wrong. Maybe use another fan? That could be dying out on you other than that, no idea.

It's probaly the sensor/bios update.

I use a MSI board and after a Bios update a couple of versions back my CPU temps are all messed up ever since and jumped about 10 Degrees Idle and even will jump 5 degrees up and down intermittently. Unfortunately you would need a Temp. probe to confirm this.

im using the asus probe, and my bios for my temp reads. my fan isnt dying on me, its spinning around 2500 RPM like usual. and when i took off my HSF yesterday to clean it, i made sure i seated it the right way. this is rediculous.

Did you clean out all the vent openings in your case?

33 is pretty high for the case temp. That's 91 farenheit.

My rig averages 21 degrees case temp.

Not really. I'm at 30C right now, CPU temp is 45C. That's an XP2100@2600 speeds (2.2GHz), well ventilated case. However, my heatsink is an Alpha 8045 with a 41CFM fan.

How much AS3 did you apply? I feel the absolute best way to apply AS3 is to wrap your finger in saran wrap and creat a flat spot on your finger tip. Apply a BB sized application to your finger and "dap" the CPU core. Then paint the core with your finger, leaving a very thin layer of AS3. When I say thin, I mean if you put AS3 on a piece of paper you can still see the white! I get 30-33C idle and 40-44C full load with my Barton 2500. Taisol heatsink.

sorry to bring up the obvious, but nobody else has 😛... what are your ambient temps? if your room is hot... then your cpu will be too. no fan can cool past ambient

I just came on to post this exact problem...My temps had been running around 43C with SETI running full time. Late last week I noticed temp was at 55(!) I have done NOTHING to the PC for about a month. Temps just jumped... I was gonna take the HSF off and restart, but this is an installation I did about 6 weeks ago. It's still running fine...but temps shouldn't have jumped 12C for no reason.

The Barton, I don't know why are really hot when working, pehaps 50º really is not too much for a Barton chip, but providing it don't get higher than 65º it should be OK, even using the best air cooling solution

ah no ...

33 is not bad at all for a case temp ... mine is about that and I am using 2 x 120mm Panaflo Meds for my case.

what do you have for GPU and RAM?

I'd still be concerned about airflow if the case is 10 or more degrees above room temp.

512 OCZ PC3200
AMD 2500+ at 200*11
Thermaltake Silent Boost HSF
ATI 9500pro
Antec 2600 case with 2 80mm fans

Running F@H with SSE enabled 24*7

Currently 39 socket 42 diode and 20 case
Room temp is just under 20 (67farenheit)
