That is one of THE BEST budget PSUs you can buy. The actual manufacturer is Channel Well, who makes Antec and Enermax rebadges, among others. Channel Well is also one of three Tier-1 PSU manufacturers.

That is another awesome budget PSU. Topower makes this unit (they also make rebadges for OCZ, Tagan, Vantec, and others). Another Tier-1 manufacturer. The third Tier-1 company is FSP (Fortron, Sparkle, CoolerMaster, etc.).

Rosewill uses a Tier-4 manufacturer (Youngyear) for most of their PSUs. Huge step up in quality between Tier-1 and Tier-4. I would consider spending the extra $15-$20, especially if you're powering a friggin' SLI rig that costs $1000 or more.
The man speaks the truth here.

It's also been established that Rosewill's UL numbers have been traced back to: YoungYear (as mentioned), Deer, Leadman/Powmax, Wintech, none of which are even close to tier 1 manufacturers, Tier3 and Tier4 are more like it. These same manufacturers are also notorious for misleading consumers with the info on the label, i'd prefer to call it "lie".

The XClio/Channelwell rebrands are the current sleeper deals with powersupplies, which are atx 2.0 compliant. Better product and more future-proof.

Ehh, not really. The best mfr for rosewill so far has been youngyear, which deserves no accolades. Various Rosewill UL numbers have been traced back to the worst of worst manufacturers.

Not trying to threadcrap btw, i hope everyone's psu works out for them, but some of the the info posted in this thread needed clearing up ;)

Hey Zebo, or should I call you "horse's mouth":) with almost 18k posts, I'd imagine you know quite a few things about PC components (i.e., you've been around Anandtech a LOT), how do you rate Youngyear power supplies?

Thanks in advance!

I just got the Rosewill RP-550 and I can confirm that the manufacturer is ATNG Power of Taiwan. Same manufacturer as the CoolMax power supplies it seems. I'm currently using the CoolMax CX-500 and so far it's been working fine. No complaints here.

NO need to get testy, i'm just relaying little-known "horse's mouth" info myself, same as yourself, everybody can believe whomever they like. PSU makers and rebranders are a complicated web in china and taiwan. Different brands contracting different factories for different models, believe me i've heard it all before. Fact is its still a crapshoot what you'll get when you buy rosewill. Check out rosewill memory sticks for example, they're currently relabeling at least 3 different generic memory brands as their own.

Gman, nice to hea the 550 was a coolmax, i know coolmax in the past had often been rebranded ttgi's. At least it didn't turn out to be a deer or powmax :), because there are people who have recieved them with a rosewill sticker slapped on, despite what other say ;)

I think you're mistaken. And even if you were right, I guarantee that 550W units from Enermax/Topower/TTGI and Rosewill don't use the same internal components. Otherwise the UL numbers for all the units would trace back to a single source.

Different source components means different quality. But the fact is, we're not arguing the difference between a $35 PSU vs. a $190 PSU...the cheapest Tier-1 rebadges are ~$55.
