500w psu with how many fans?

I bought a 500w psu , it had two fans, one on the front and one on the back, i had to take the one on the back off because it wouldn't fit in my case cause it has a pop up cooling thing. But will it hurt if i leave the fan off? There is still one fan in the front where it goes out the back of the computer next to the power plug things.

<< It shouldnt. Most psu's only have one. >>

Most PSU's aren't above 300W though. With up to 500W flowing through there, it's going to generate more heat.

What is this thing that interferes with the PSU fan? I'm not quite clear as to why the powersupply can't fit in the case.

ok, the fan i took it off and it fits, but i don't want the psu to burn up or nothing. the case i have has a "pop up cooling" thing on top of it, you can see it here - My case Theres a bar thing taht is weilded into the case and it hits the fan and it won't fit unless i take the fan off.

Aah, what the heck. Never seen anything like that. In instances like this, when something doesn't fit and can't be forced, the Dremel tool makes it fit. 😉
That's how I got a 25mm thick fan to fit in a space only about 20mm wide. Sanding here and there, and a little slicing; now fits.
I just still wouldn't think it good to run a 500W PSU with only one fan; there's probably 2 there for a reason. If you won't miss the extra blowhole, slice out what's in the way. That's all I can think to do. Sorry I can't help more. :-\

on my emermax 550w psu it has 2 internal fans. little to no noise. apart from the 4x 120mm fans and 3x 80 mm it's pretty sound
