Hey all,

I am thinking about upgrading my cpu, mobo and vid card and i am wondering if my current PSU will be sufficient for the newer set up.

My current rig is as follows

e6600
asus p965mobo
7600gt
2gig of ocz dd2-800 ram
320gb seagate hdd
2x samsung dvd-r drives

i am thinking about getting the following.

q6600
asus p5q p45mobo
4870 or gtx 260.

Thanks.

Thanks for the confirmation, and ya read my mind on the PSU, that specific corsair PSU was my top choice for a replacement.

What about a 4850?

Would the enermax be sufficient for the setup above with a 4850 instead of a 4870/gtx260?

No not ever the 4850. Think back to the 1900 and 7900 days. Thats about as much as it will support. While the total wattage of your PSu is enough to support either card it doesn't put enough of that wattage to the 12V rails where it is needed. Its an older model that didn't put as much power to the 12V rails as newer and better quality 500W PSUs do now.

The Liberty is capable of 32A on the 12V rail...that is kind of low for 500W PSUs now, but it is enough for a 4850 certainly, but the Liberty apparently has a flawed design because they have a much higher than average failure rate...meaning they go boom and puff of smoke.

Well that convinced me lol.

I bought the liberty after hearing a lot of good stuff about it a couple of years ago.

I am guessing the the failure problems didnt come up until later on in its run.
