OK, so SPCR liked it and gave it a decent review.

Question? Why complain about squeeling when the +5VSB is unloaded? Is it a normal
condition of operation to have no load on the +5VSB?

SPCR tells us that inspite of the warning not to power the unit up w/o a load, they do so anyway, just to see what happens :) Inorder to increase efficiency the loading resistors
are no longer used in many PSUs.

We have several members here that run this unit as the Enhance ENP-5150GH and not
one has complained of a squeel. *confused*

So lets take a look at this with a bazooka....

On the one hand its ok to use SPCR to back up your arguments when it suits your need.....and when it doesn`t contradict your opinion concerning a certain brand of PSU.

But let SPCR slam for whatever reason a product that certain peeps have been heavily promoting and all of a sudden SPCR is the EVIl Empire......rofl....

Then to make matters worse people are now sticking up for what is essentially a rebadged PSU......

This way too funny........
way to funny......
to funny.......
funny.........

attacks?
I was just pointing out the fact we all are fanboi`s to one extent or another...
I fail to see where I openly called anybody a name or made up fact(s) that are NOT true or lied in my post.....:D

They were testing Silverstone's claimed min load requirements (which turned out to be useless). It's called product testing; if a manufacture makes a claim it only makes sense to verify it.

The sequel happened under conditions with a very low 5v load, most systems will be drawing enough 5v power for it not to be a problem. Some very low power systems might bring out the problem but such a system would never need a 500 watt PSU in the first place so it's most likely a non-issue.

I did read the review and they stated that the +5VSB was in a no load condition when it squeeled :D

This is what I read.

Of more concern was the wheezing electronic squeal that the power supply gave off when there was not enough load on the +5VSB line. The squeal was high pitched and very irritating, and it was present whenever the power supply was running unless at least 0.3A were applied to the +5VSB line.

+5VSB always have loads on them. So the squeal is a moot point. .3A (what they had to load the +5VSB with to get it to stop squealing) is a very low load.

It's not unlike SPCR to dig deep to find something to bitch about. They're still an excellent resource. You just have to have a brain to read and understand what's a normal operating condition and what isn't. ;)

As for minimum load requirements, I'm not sure why Silverstone stated there needs to be no load on the +5VSB. But then again, why does Antec claim their Trio has three 12V rails with a 19A limit and a 1A minimum load for each. ;) But I hope SPCR is fair and decide to test everyone's minimum load requirements, test crossloads, etc. :D
