mrsjomarSince this is a Celeron system, the system bus runs @ 66mhz. All (three) generations of Celerons have used this speed bus, the next is rumored to use a 100 mhz bus.

Shop the deals, and you may as well opt for ram rated PC100, as it often has little or no price premium over PC66 ram anymore. Also, like processors and some video cards, etc., there is often some "wiggle room" capabilities beyond the stated spec.

Whatever you do, don't pay regular "sale" price at some place like CrapUSA.

Edit: Oh, and YES, you can just add a 128mb stick (or nay other size) into your system so long as there's a free memory slot.

Did we get a good deal on this? Sure hope so.....

My invoice is dated 9/21 so it must have been that day. I have to believe I can still sell these and make something, after all, just over $310 in a computer like this isn't a lot.

Invoice Date: 09/24
Got on 09/27 w/2day fedex
for 299 + 25+27 = 348 (Idiots at Insight charge
Sales tax to CA even for products shipped from outside CA)

PC is fine.
Easy side-open thumbscrew mini-tower

After seeing it, I am daring to compare it with my Dell 4100 w/256MB.

I tried to buy this on Monday 9/25, was told they had 150, they fumbled my info, floated me around, and then told me they had just barely sold out, offering me instead some much worse machine for much more $. Is this bait/switch typical of Insight? It sounds from the psost here like they've done this a few times now on this deal alone, claiming they were finally out. Is there some other site you'd recommend I look at if I'm trying to find a good deal on a moderately good new central unit (I don't think I need to replace the rest of the system)?

Thanks! :frown:

Rigor,

the DotD is a 366 celeron. Big difference between that and a 500mhz celeron.

Unclebud, or anyone that knows about ram, please look at this. It is a better price than any other I have found. Please tell me if this is what I need for the Toshiba 3100. There is 128mb for 102.00 and 115.00, which is the best?(if what I need to buy)

http://www.shoppingplanet.com/cm/list.asp?groupid=22&attrnum=223&select=22s223 (shoppingplanet.com)

By the way,my Toshiba was delivered yesterday pm. Hope everyone else gets what they ordered. I have a Dell Demension Celeron 433 MHZ, and so far, like this one almost as well. I think when I add the 128MB ram, it will great. Just got it for a backup machine.

Thanks Guys for all your help on this!

I got mine last night. Its replacing my sisters old P100 which I'm upgrading to a 233MMX as soon as the chip arrives.
The Toshiba is nice, and a great deal. Very clean and neat inside, ran great out of the box. Funny thing is, they emailed me saying they would not be able to deliver it because they had none in stock. Oh well, I got mine =)

Any hot deals on RAM to throw into this sucker?
Also, anyone know what level ATA the IDE bus is? I've yet to open the manula =)

sangfroid7:
The serial number is located on the invoice under the product description.
It should be on the case somewhere also, but we have not been able to find it.

Hope this helps.

thanks, mrsjomar. I didnt see it, so I called toshiba, and here's an interesting story I got this morning:

if you look carefully, there are two stickers put together at the back panel, so I peeled off the top one and saw the serail number on the bottom one(it's the same thing as on invoice). top one dont have a serial number(as we all see), only part number, bottom one has a different part number(it's different from either the top sticker's or the invoice's!!) and an serial number. I called toshiba and they said from the part number on the bottom they are sure it is a PEOPLEPC computer and only sold by peoplepc, and peoplepc should provide the warranty. there is NO WAY for toshiba to give warranty on it. so I called peoplepc, but they said since it was not purchased from them, they dont have my information in their database, so they cannot give me any wanrranty. they said if insight.com bought it from them then resell it to me, insight.com should have an account with peoplepc and also the membership, and warranty! so if I want warranty I should go through insight.com NOT directly from peoplepc. so, I called insight.com. the guy on the phone said TOSHIBA should give me warranty since they are the manufacturer!

This is really not worth it! they were like passing me to another and nothing solved! I wish I saw the part number and serial number on invoice first and that might saved all the hassles!

BTW I tried to register at TOSHIBA's website but there's no part number PV1057U-IM500, as appears on my invoice. maybe it's new
