I would go with Nicks. A64 it looks like a great setup for the budget minded person.

If he went with the Barton and a motherboard with an IGP he would save $80 on the CPU and another $64.50 on the graphics card. That's almost $150 cheaper and it wouldn't perform all that much slower.

Sick which mobo should i look at to go with that Barton ?.Also for the guy who listed that dell yeah it looks like a good deal but i don't like dells & i already had a p4 2.8c rig & didn't like it at all.I also need a nice size hd as 40gigs isn't enough.

What do you guys thik about this cpu & mobo ? -

AMD 45 Watt Mobile Athlon Xp 2600 +
Abit NF7-M

I can use the onboard sound & video & save some $$$.

Is the Mobile 2600+ better/faster then the Barton 2500+ ?

Heres what i got in my cart so far -

(not what im gonna buy yet lol just seeing my total)

AMD 45 Watt Mobile Athlon XP 2600+, 266 MHz FSB, 512K L2 Cache Processor - OEM
ABIT "NF7-M" nForce2 IGP Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU -RETAIL
Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model HDS722516VLSA80 Part# 13G0254, OEM Drive Only
Hitachi 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model HDS722580VLSA80, OEM
2 - NEC 8X DVD+RW/-RW Drive, Model ND-2500A, OEM Bulk

Total - $476.49

Still got around $120 for a case/ram & whatever else i need. Now i know that isn't enough but i might be able to add another $100 depending on what i can add.I don't need a floopy btw.

I would suggest the Abit NF7-M w/ a 2500+ mobile, 1GB of PC3200, 160GB HD w/ 8mb cache, DVD burner (I posted that above already).

what brand of ram
which hd
dvd burner i know which one i want already

Will you be frequently burning two DVD's at the same time?

Also, I don't know how much CPU utilization burning a DVD takes up, but if it's alot (i.e. > 50%), will you even be able to burn two DVD's at once? Or would you need something like a P4 (w/HT) to do the job?

I'll have to leave the last questions to those more knowledgeable than me.

I wanna burn 2 dvds at once yes.I remember i used to burn 2 cdrs at the same time on a xp1700 with np at all.

RAM and HD brands are personal preference. I prefer Samsung RAM and Maxtor HD's.

Burning 2 DVD's at once is more a HD limitation than anything else. If you have 2 HD's you will have no problem at all, provided that you're using SATA combined w/ IDE (give each HD a SATA channel and make each DVD burner a primary IDE drive).

I recently built this box for a budget minded client:

AMD Athlon XP Mobile 2400+
Shuttle AN35 Ultra
512MB Kingmax PC3200 DDR RAM
ATi Radeon 9600 128MB Video Card
Western Digital 80GB Special Edition Hard Drive
Speeze Falcon Rock Socket 462 Cooler
Lite-On 52X/32X/52X CD-RW
Antec 1650B Case w/350W PSU

The total was 474.99, 490 Shipped all from Newegg.

I know it doesn't cover everything you were looking at, but changes could be made to suit you a little better. The machine runs great, nice and cool at 2.4GHZ, and extremely quiet. I am going to be building a backup box with one of these Mobile AXP's and see how high I can overclock it with a little better cooling. I personally think if you don't mind overclocking, on a budget, one of these Mobile AXP's are going to allow you to spend more cash on things like hard drive space and memory, where you might actually see a difference in everyday apps, opposed to a few MHZ of CPU speed, which most likely would be lost except to all those who hold 3DMark and SuperPi as the only judge of a quality system. If you are going to be doing basic things, an A64 is going to be wasted on you, as an overclocked AXP will give you very similar performance in the majority of the tasks it seems you want to complete.

Anyway, just a thought, have fun and good luck on the build!

Thanks for the info jdog.I think i'm gonna go with one of those xp mobile's.

Anybody have an idea on what ram i should get with that cpu/mobo i posted above ?.For the case i think im just gonna get a Antec Sontana or how ever you spell it lol.
