Yeah I noticed that too. Coupes are typically sought after and retained by die hard enthusiasts making them hard to find, while the cute and trendy convertibles strike me as the "keep up with the Jones" models that flood the used market every year when next year's car comes out.

That or someone either realizes how dumb the convertible is, or falls in love with the car and becomes more serious and trades it in for the coupe.

It's the whole lease thing again... Someone is only going to have it for 3 years so they want a vert and SMG. If it's a purchased car they'll have for 10 years then they want a coupe.

Most BMW owners as a whole are regular upgraders...at least around here.

You seem to have some warped/bias view of the car market and what auctions are about.

That is a good color combo though.. BMW gray leather ages very well. It's a ZCP so not probably not a previously leased disposable car. 66k means it just had one of the more expensive inspections.

Alabama is close to you, so what exactly is the downside? Go for it!

I wouldn't buy anything anywhere on Northern Boulevard that is not from a company sponsored dealership. I've been to almost EVERY dealership along Northern Blvd, and most are complete scam artists. I can't tell from the pics too well, but I bet I've been to this dealership at one point.

A HUGE flag in that listing is they don't even mention the dealership name.

Stop wasting your time people! He's the guy that make a thread every month about what car to buy. He will never buy anything.

If you have nothing to contribute then stay out of the thread...

What is your reasoning for not wanting a private seller? Often that is where you will find the best kept cars with good records.
Precisely! My car is possibly the best kept car I know. You want to buy car from an enthusiast, and from conversation you'll find out really quick if he's one or not.

You mean leasers...nearly everyone leases a BMW down here.

Dude, you seem butthurt...

Also you guys with your really older M's aren't getting the whole process I am going through.

I am not just looking at any 'dealership' car. Especially with the M3 people tend to upgrade back through the dealership they have a relationship with. Those cars the dealership will know the history.

When one is basically trying to order a 'used car', there is a lot of trust needed. I also can't be flying to see every car the owner claims is perfect, has pictures from 10 years ago + one curent odometer one, and all that.

I don't need any 'help' on anything other than locating possible cars.

WTF are you talking about? I just picked up a 2012 Mazda 3 s Grand Touring for my wife.

I have qualified the reasons why I haven't been able to buy sooner...already I may get scheduled to be on a project out in Genoa. So I am trying to act fast, but at the same time I am not in really any rush on this.

I am just not going to buy any car. I know the process, I just need leads so as usual please pound sand. If you want to start a how to buy a car thread, create on.

You're such a prick. You always have been, but this thread just takes it to a new level.

I hope one of the women you sleep with on one of your escapades gives you some inexplicable disease. It might make you a nicer person.

If you want to express your thoughts such as this to someone do it in a PM NOT here in open forum...

First off Alky, don't you drive a ~15 year old car? Who are you to make insinuations over people having "really old m cars".. Lol, especially considering you're about to buy one older than any of the m owners in this thread 🙄 That's not even getting into that some of these people you're being shitty to actually own this exact car and are only trying to help you.

I can't help but notice that you still seem to not have a clue as to how these sort of things work. Most (as in well over 75%, I would speculate 90%+) of the e46 m3s you find at a dealer are from an auction or dealer-dealer trade. People tend to not trade-in m cars because trade-in value sucks! Instead the 'owners' sell private party. This doesn't usually happen with family or regular cars which hold trade-in value and purpose is transportation rather than sport.

You can make yourself feel better by thinking it had some super meticulous previous owner, but it was likely either someone who at very best met their 15k oil change interval and drove it hard when cold OR it was some kid's car - beat on for 3 years and 36k before being turned back in. No one who leases a car will worry about an engine stutter or noise here and there, or that they keep the alignment perfect, or that they're topping up with the required 10w-60 TWS oil - if they even check the oil between their 15k oil changes. Why should they care? It's a lease, they met their minimum requirements and did their duty. (again, none of this matters as much with a 'regular' car)

Also, your comment about the dealer 'knowing the previous owner since m owners stick to the same dealer' is BS as well. No BMW dealer is going to know or tell you the previous history of a car. Most will remove any and all documentation with the car, and will only print you out a sheet that shows it was serviced every 15k miles.

At the age of car you're looking at it you're likely the third owner of a budget sports car. So buying from a dealer, best case scenario, is a car that's had the oil changed one time before you buy it. Transmission and diff and everything else (vanos filter, motor mount bolts, cam bolts - all common s54 problems) have been ignored. I'll pass on that, thanks. When you buy an ~8 year old sports car it is absolutely with an extra 5% to know the history.

And do not kid yourself Alky, you are in no way 'ordering' a car rofl..

Seriously... We're only ragging on you so hard because you're being so bull headed in the face of facts. There is no reason for you to buy a car like this from a dealer whatsoever - unless maybe your used car loan won't let you go private party?

I guess we've all pretty much said all that can be said to you. Good luck in your search, post up pics once you find what you're looking for!

Right, which is why I would not be looking this way for one. To HELP YOU OUT, 2006's are now coming up on the end of their extended warranties so they are making appearances at DEALERSHIPS for trade ins on another M usually. These are 'good' cars and not leases.

You simply have no freaking clue and just like to think you know stuff because you own on.

Down here it's different and in many "M heavy" areas it is. People don't want the hassles over a few grand.

I don't have problems with auctions though, most of the nicest cars I come across especially specialized cars end up there. Nothing wrong with a middle man.

Its a freaking car. I am not buying from children as yourself that happened to find a steal of a deal on some old car. I am sure many here that think they are doing the right thing are doing just as you describe. I know far more about cars and have built far more of them than most people, esp. here. It's like you just like seeing your posts of something with all the noise you add to a topic.

There are many dealer's buying these cars from private parties...many are consigning them as well. You are clueless. Have you only dealt with BUY HERE PAY HERE places or something?

Umm...no. I will be looking at extremely low mileage vehicles with one or two owners tops.

And do not kid yourself Alky, you are in no way 'ordering' a car rofl..

You must come from a very poor area. There are tons of services out there that do just this everyday.

Seriously... We're only ragging on you so hard because you're being so bull headed in the face of facts. There is no reason for you to buy a car like this from a dealer whatsoever - unless maybe your used car loan won't let you go private party?

I can go to a private party and would if I could find one locally...if I go remotely there are extra costs. My rate also changes slightly from a non-local dealer to 4.89% versus 2.99%. If I found the right private party car then I'd definitely go for it. Again you take a post and just want to add a ton of irrelevant noise to it.

I guess we've all pretty much said all that can be said to you. Good luck in your search, post up pics once you find what you're looking for!

naw probably not post pics here...wrong kind of BMW crowd here...saggy pants and sideway hat types aren't cool to me, but thanks for caring. y0?

Here's a tip Alky - this is a discussion forum. Like it or not, when you make a post you're going to get people disagreeing with you. These aren't people trying to hurt your feelings or whatever, most of us are genuinely trying to help you and others who are reading.

If you want the type of atmosphere where you blindly tell someone what you want and are simply given your answers then you need to go through a car buying service - although most won't even give you the time of day for a purchase like this.

As I said before, it's obvious that there's nothing else that can be said to you. If you'd like to continue the insults feel free to PM me so that your trash stays out of the garage posts and in OT where it unfortunately belongs.

I can't believe I'm supporting alkemyst but I don't think anything he's doing or said is wrong or incorrect. It's his choice to buy from a dealer or private party. Outside of Georgia and Arizona, I would probably choose dealer over private party too.
