if you want, you could upgrade that psu to 500W or possibly upgrade the video card or motherboard...

your build looks fine though. i just upgraded to an amd opteron 170, 8800GTS 320MB, and an asus a8n32-sli mobo for $600.

So my understanding is that I can overclock the 4300 to about 3Ghz... with no cooling modifications? Are there any cases that you guys recomend that would be better for this? I have no interest in adding extra fans and stuff just to overclock, but I'm geting the impression that this thing can overclock without the need of extra cooling... is that correct?

Copied this ...

Using Gigabyte's GA-965P-DS3 motherboard, our engineering sample was able to run at 3.375GHz (375MHz x 9.0) at 1.468V using a stock Intel cooler. Although the E4300 still only has a 2MB L2 cache, when overclocked to over 3.3GHz you end up with a chip that's faster than Intel's Core 2 Extreme X6800 - at only $163. The E4300 gets even better in Q2 when its price will drop from $163 to $133, making it even more of a bargain.

Any RAM and Case recommendations?

You're already at $715 chief, doesn't make sense looking at your thread title.

I know, but its fine. I can go over budget, now that I'm getting a more clear picture of what is out there and what I should be getting. However I might wait for the ATI cards to come out... is there a cheaper card that I can get to hold me over for a couple of months that will play BF2 just fine on this build?

i am sure you could run a 7600gt to play bf2 @ 1024x768 or maybe 1280x1024 (not sure) - maybe look in the fs/ft forum for even a x850xt in pci-e

there is no reason to belive that it won't work well with the ati cards...it doesn't work that way - you can use ati cards with nvidia chipset m/b and nvidia gpus with ati based m/b...they are built off a specific being pci-e 16x so they will all play nice together 🙂

Ok ... I might just do that. Do you have any mem recommendations? I do plan on overclocking this as suggested... didn't know if mem type had a big impact on that (I've never overclocked before)

you may want to go to the cpu/processor forum and look/post in there for what is good for what speed and also for the $$$$. i am still using ddr1 ram so i am not too familiar with the ddr2 stuff on a personal level except to know that a lot of it just dropped in price 🙂

The best prices on RAM this week are the eWiz deal on Supertalent 2GB (2x1GB) PC2 5400 for $111.00, or if you want something a little faster the OCZ DDR2 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400 for $139.99 at Fry's/Outpost.
