Circuit City has the 50 pack of "Ohm" brand CD-Rs on sale for $17.99. After I paid, two different $10 rebates printed out. The rebates are programs YE131, expiring 6/26/04, and Y9790, expiring 11/30/04.

Model SCDR50, 700MB 48x media, made in HK

Depending on your sales tax, this is truly FAR even with postage. Quality of CDR unknown 😀

Made in Hong Kong, not Taiwan??? That's *really* interesting. That's the first that I've heard of CD-R mfg plants in HK, and the brand is unknown to me as well.

Can you check the ATIP info with Nero, Alcohol 120, or CDRIdentifier? If you can, post the complete sets of codes, if they don't show up as something common like CMC or Ritek, please.

According to CDRIdentifier, the Ohm media-

ATIP=97m 27s 18f
Manuf=Plasmon Data Systems
Dye=short strategy

Visually, the CDR does not have any distinct color.

EVEN BETTER

Ohm 50-pk is $17.99
Audiobahn 50-pk is $19.99

The signing on the shelf showed that the Ohm's are $0.01 AR and the Audiobahn's are $1 or $2 and change AR. I forget the exact amount.

I bought both the Ohm and the Audiobahn 50-pks at the same time.
YE31 rebate form is for $20 and lists $10 off each 50-pk.
Y9790 rebate form is for $20 and lists $10 off each 50-pk.

Here's the link to the Ohm CD-R brand 50 pack: here.
Here's the link to the Audiobahn CD-R brand 50 pack: here.

Looks like the Y9790 rebate is the missing rebate form that isn't linked in the products page that makes the deal FAR.

Would you check the purchase date range of the rebate Y9790? I did a search on Google by just typing Y9790 in Google, and it showed that rebate, but the link was invalid. So I hit "cached", it shows the cached content of that link.

The rebate said that Qualifying items must have been purchased between
12/02/03 and 05/22/04. So may be this is just an old rebate that was mistakenly printed out? You will not get your rebate check for this rebate if the purchase date is not within this range.

Hey ParatoOptimal, becareful with the YE131 rebate, because on that rebate form (on Circuit City's website), it says that you can either buy one or the other. So technically, you're screwed for buying Ohm and Audiobahn. I don't know about the Y9790 one, since I have yet to find that online.

I'm actually trying to locate that rebate, because it is sure a very lengthy range for a rebate to be valid. I've already seen other rebates that have even longer ranges than that of Y9790, about 1 year range. If you go to Circuit City's website, and select Rebates in the left hand menu, then select Peripherals and Accessories, you can hunt for the rebates there, provided that you're willing to search for the $10 rebate and sort through the titles of the rebates and compare the dates as well. That's what I'm doing right now.

Edit: Cannot find it. 🙁

I'm thinking that:
1. They changed the promotion date on the rebate.
2. They screwed up the promotion date on the rebate.

I think I should sit out on this potential FAR deal because thedealmaker brings up a valid point that when Google'ing for the Y9790 rebate, the promotion date for the rebate ended on 5/22/04.

I've already hit up Radio Shack today for two Ridata 50 Pack CD-Rs, FAR too.

Too risky to play with a potential dead $10 rebate.

"Qualifying items must have been purchased between 12/02/03 and 11/30/04

Niether one mentions that you can't purchase both items.

The cashier mentioned that I had two $20 rebates.

Each rebate form lists ...

"Qualifying Models:

$20 Mail - in Offer on purchase of:

ABN SCDR50 Qty: 1 Offer Amt: $10

OHM SCDR50 Qty: 1 Offer Amt: $10

Did you read the reviews of these 2 CDRs in Circuitcity.com? The reviews are very bad and very consistent. I have never seen a product with so many consistent bad reviews before. Beware of your data!

Interesting. Those are most likely *not* made directly by Plasmon. I remember some postings from some head honcho at CDRecordable.com, talking about how they used Plasmon stampers. Apparently they sell CD stampers on the OEM market to actual CD mfg's. Plus, Plasmon is not from HK.

So the mystery continues.. 🙂

I bought some ohm cdrs before from CC.. 3/4 of them turned out to be coasters. Could have just been a bad batch, though.

stevens creek had em for -2dollars! 😛 the ohms atleast. 2 10 dollar rebates, each expiring7/26/2004
12/30/2004

the ohms are made in hong kong, and so were the regular audiobahns too. the audiobahns were only 7 after rebate thouugh.

atleast the print quality on the top of the discs inspires some confidence, doesn't look too shoddy unlike some generics.

what speed you burn at...mine does 16 x for some reason

When I read the YE131 form that was posted up on Circuit City's website, it mentions the word "OR" between the Ohm's and the Audiobahn's CD-R packs.

ah, 16x on my benq burner (think its benq, can't remember, its a sh*t brand)

i check off verify with each burn ...so far out of 10 discs, 0 failures.

i guess thats why they are getting rid of em..burn speed is very low. guess u can't always judge a book by its cover hehe, cuz they don't look that shoddy from the outside like some other cut rate discs. but for -2 dollars, i won't complain too much

I've burned a few music CDs using the Ohms and played them on different players without problems. Based on the above, best results being obtained burning at lower speeds?

HQH51,
I saw that on their website.
I think it means that the same rebate is good for both CD-R spindles.
I don't think it means only one or the other.

My hardcopy that printed at the registers states that it is for $20.
It then lists both spindles as quialifying for $10 each.
It also lists barcodes for each.
