Interesting new bed company that compress-ships you a bed in a box:

https://casper.com/

Video review here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBGm0fgu0CM

The Next Web also reviewed it:

http://thenextweb.com/insider/2014/06/05/2-weeks-casper-mattress-bedtime-never-felt-good/

It's a combination of latex foam & memory foam, which is in the middle of the road in terms of stiffness - it's not cushy like a pillowtop, which I previous had, which was really soft but also transferred any movement over to wake up your partner. Pretty much all reviews say that the firm, but not too firm, design is excellent for other activities as well. It is not a good mattress is you like a very firm bed. Read more about their hybrid foam approach here:

http://faq.casper.com/hc/en-us/arti...-so-special-about-a-latex-memory-foam-hybrid-

Warmer than a conventional bed, but not as hot as a memory foam (which is a common complaint with foam beds...I have a knockoff Temperpedic, but I actually like the added warmth). It has a 100-day trial period & easy returns. The only real negative I've read is that there's no firm edge, so it's not good if you like sitting on the edge to put your shoes on or whatever. Shipping is 1 to 5 days CONUS. You can keep it on the floor or throw it on a boxspring or whatever you want.

Six sizes: (with discount)

1. Twin ($450) 39”×75”
2. Twin XL ($550) 39”×80”
3. Full ($700) 54”×75”
4. Queen ($800) 60”×80”
5. King ($900) 76”×80”
6. California King ($900) 72”×84”

There's also a referral link in the Youtube video link's description above if those expire (I'd imagine that is a "stable" discount link since it's tied to a person who reviewed it); you can also do a google search for "http://refer.casper.com" to find more referral links for $50 off if those disappear - plenty around. The mattresses are pretty expensive, but keep in mind that a real Temperpedic ranges in price from $1500 up to $7500, so even at $900 for the largest Casper bed, you're still saving at least $600 and getting a cooler-temperature bed with a nicer hybrid foam design.

On a tangent, I'm really liking the trend towards both online commodity purchases & personalized local purchases. I don't heavily invest in very many material things, but supportive beds & shoes are two things that I am willing to put my money into. I wear New Balance shoes because they have a sensor pad you stand on that recommends a shoe for you, then they can custom-fit an insert into the shoe to match your arch & other issues you may have. I had minor foot pain most of my life due to never finding a good shoe for my feet, and after spending about 40 minutes at NB getting them fitted, I haven't had any problems since. Anyway, I think it's cool that you can order stuff like an awesome mattress online. Also, one of the reviews mentioned another online bedding company, Boll & Branch, which is supposed to have awesome cotton sheets:

Some more suggestions from Casper here:

What's next, ordering a car off Amazon? :whiste:

I'm a few weeks in on mine and a friend has already used my referral link. Mattress is firm, customer service has been great with the company, and I received my gift card within a few days of my friend ordering his.

Any idea what your density is? We prefer 4.0 lbs./ft+

Single density option:

http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox...one_density_option_and_delivers_in_a_box.html

Casper sells foam mattresses that fuse 1.5 inches of dunlop latex foam, 1.5-inches of 4-lb. density memory foam, and 7-inches of base polyurethane support foam.

https://casper.com/mattresses

SLEEP SURFACE

1.5" of continuously poured dunlop latex foam balances a 13 ILD load-deflection with an energetic springiness.
1.5" proprietary blend of 4 lb high-density memory foam further relieves pressure.

I heard McFly Sr. loves 'em:

How's everybody's holding up? My friend had a temperpedic that has a little too much memory now (big divot) that causes some issues. Now he's quite a big dude, and I'm not as big as he is but still pretty heavy, and I don't want to invest in anything that won't last.

I've been sleeping on mine for about 6 weeks. Love it! My wife wanted it a little bit softer, a quick chat with Casper and they shipped us an additional topper to soften it up even more.

Wow nice! Is it like a foam topper?

I read up on it and it's just another 1.5" of the latex foam I guess. Everybody says it makes such a difference that Casper would do well to just add that extra foam to the mattress, then it'd be perfect from the start.

Anyway, I buckled down and ordered one. Given the trial period and everybody confirming that Casper really isn't lying about how easy it is to return if you don't like it, there's not much risk on my end.

Are there any pictures of the foam topper online? Wondering if it just sits on top & then stays put under the bottom elastic sheet.

Haven't found any, and don't even see it mentioned on their page. The only info I've found is from posts from people who claim it was offered to them after they weren't satisfied with the stock mattress.

My wife and I are also looking at this. We have been using an ~15 year old waterbed and the bladders keep springing leaks so replacing those along with getting a whole new box for them would cost us about the same as getting this bed.

How liquid absorbent is the topper material? Im not sure why I havent killed this cat yet but my wife's cat has, in the past been known to pee on the bed which isnt a huge issue with a water bed but if this material absorbs it then that would be a major problem.

In looking at these mattresses I stumbled across the MatressNerd and apparently if you don't have a sufficiently effective mattress cover your warranty is typically void. And by effective they mean waterproof.

We got a knockoff memory foam mattress a few years ago from Bob's Discount Furniture (New England chain); we got a waterproof liner that goes under the bottom sheet with it for spills. Would definitely recommend that if you have a cat prone to, ah, liquidation :awe:

That would make sense for foam beds because there's probably no way to fully extract spilled liquids on it due to the porous nature of the material, it's basically a giant sponge.

liquidation LOL

I sometimes want to do that to that cat but then I turn around and actually extend her life expectancy by bringing her to the vet.

I don't nkow about this particular one, but we recently got a hybrid mattress and absolutely love it. I didn't like true memory foam mattresses.

lol I have a real tempurpedic. It is really good for sex. You can also jump out of a 3rd floor window onto it if you ever got trapped.
