cant speak to the -'s, but am working on a 25 pack of the +'s on my hp300i, and no problems at all. so so much sweeter than the absolute crap memorex uses for their cdrs. at less that a buck a disc, this is a bargain!!

🙂

good...i had ordered the +r's, that little assurance feels good. My friend was using 3 different pure crap brands in his nec dvd-r and he is 25-0 no coasters, and complete compatability...hopefully mine is almost as good.

I bought two packs of the Memorex DVD-R's last week. DVD Info shows me this: CMCMAG.AF1. However, using DVD Shrink and Nero, these discs burn great. I've only gone through 4 DVD's but I have yet to burn a coaster.

Forgot to mention that I'm using NEC's 1300a dual format burner.

...don't tell me that...doesn't help me feel good about my purchase. I hope this combo of media and drive works out well...

Ordered these a little after midnight and picked them (DVD+R) up at OD(in Baltimore) this morning for $47.11. Over the last few months I've burned over 30 of these with no coasters using a Memorex DVD recorder and they work in my Toshiba SD-1800 player.

My horror story of the Day.
Tried 2 Pickups today.
First one apparently the store doesn't have any of the 25pks in store anymore but Online doesn't show it.

Replaced the order and found another place to have it in pasadena, CA.
Went there to pick up order but I was told I need print out of the 2 coupons I use.
The B1G1F and the $10 off $50. So both times I wasn't able to pick up on the deal.

Now i'm wondering what to do. Place order online and put it on backorder?
Or are they just picky because I said I be paying by check I wonder.

I payed online, so i just walked in, picked them up, and walked out. Was nice and quick, 5 minutes at the most.

I did this after the coupon expired, OD still let me use it after talking to a manager on their 800 number. Then I tried to pricematch Amazon for B1G1 $29.99, but I was given the choice of B1G1 at OD's price or a flat pricematch of $29.99. Anyways, I put them on backorder, did the B1G1 and $15 off $50. Got one pack in the mail the next day, the other is backordered and will be shipped this coming week, I guess.

Got the drive today (nec 1300a), and had bought the 50 memorex dvd+r's from OD for about $45. I haven't tried dvd x copy, or dvd x copy xpress. I used dvd decrypter->dvd2one->imgtool->dvd decrypter. I got some wierd error before i burnt the iso onto the dvd with dvd decrypter, but burnt it anyway. At 45% I got an error and I could either abort/retry/ignore, and retry and ignore did nothing. I aborted and just out of curriosity wanted to see if I could get anything off of the dvd. I figured I might be able to get something like 45% of the movie, or reduced quality, or no picture/audio. To my surprise I got the whole movie in perfect quality. I didn't have any menus or special features, but I wasn't suppose to. Basically that error cut my write time in half and gave me what i wanted. My write time was something like 17min. @ 4.2x for the movie black hawk down. I was suppose to take 30min. which seemed long, but the 17min. it took seemed right on the money. Maybe the size of the file was being read improperly so that it burnt the whoe thing then stopped?

Anyway, I know that the drive/media are both compatible with all 6 different dvd players I have in my house.

Does anybody know if dvd x copy or xcopy xpress is any better than my method? The way I did it took quite a while and was a bit of a pain. It made me realy happy though because my blac hawk down had the pattern from a papertowel impressed on it from when my sister put it onto a papertowel and stuck a book ontop of it, and it was skipping and breaking up constantly, and now it is perfect.

I'm not sure about DVD x copy or xcopy xpress but I use DVD shrink 3.0 beta 5 with nero express. I have the same drive, NEC ND-1300a and I've burnt 6 DVDs using the DVD-R Memorex media from this thread. The picture is great as long as I keep my compression around 60% or greater. Anybody else have any recommendations on backing up DVDs?

the picture quality that i got seemed to be exactly the same. I couldn't tell any difference, and I don't care about special features so i guess I could just sit down over the next few days and do all my backups.

It would be nice to have it all in 1 prog. I am gonna have to try out the dvd x copy and xpress.

I use pinnacle instant copy for DVDs including menus and DVD2ONE for movie only. There is other software around but I haven't got the time to try them out yet.

I like DVDShrink a lot, because it's freeware and does a good job.

It's not a one-click solution, however...you have to rip/decrypt, then reencode with DVDShrink, then write with your favorite burning program.

I've tried with 3 DVD movie backup solutions: 321 Stusdio's DVD XCopy Xpress 3.0, Pinnacle Instant Copy 2.0, and DVD Shrink 2.3

To backup a DVD movie, the simplest solution is DVD XCopy Xpress (it's like two-click operations, put the original into the DVD drive, click Start, then wait until it tells you to insert a blank DVD, then 2.click Start again). So far I can tell, the movie quality is decent too. I don't know about the quality of earlier version. It can backup a DVD-9 format (2 layers with total capacity > 4.5 GB)

Pinnacle Instant Copy does not rip the movie, but it can copy the entire unprotected DVD-5 format (1-layer DVD, < 4.5 GB) or you have to use something else to rip the movie to the HDD and use Instant Copy to "re-encode" and burn the DVD. The downside of this Instant Copy is too slow since it re-encodes the entire movie, frame by frame. I have experienced up to 2 hrs. for a DVD movie without ripping. The upside is the movie quality is pretty decent, though.

DVDShrink is much faster than Pinnacle Instant Copy in terms of re-encoding (30-45 minutes for a DVD movie) but it does not have a DVD burning capability and re-encoding goes without menu, but it's FREE. You have to use another program to burn DVD, though. I use Nero 6.0 to burn.

So, it's up to you...
