50 in. Toshiba HDTV Widescreen $ 1999.99 at Sams club B&M

My local Sams club B&M has the Toshiba 50H81 Theaterwide for $1999.99 + $150.00 tax +$25.00 delivered still comes hundreds of dollars cheaper than I could find anywhere else. Went to BestBuy they would not pricematch. Great price for an awesome TV. BTW this was the Sams Club in Cathedral City CA.

Anybody have any comments about this TV? Good? Bad? My 27" is dying after 5 years and I am looking for something to replace it soon.

Take the advice of Conjur and read up first. Widescreen and HDTV is a bit different than a SDTV 4:3 set. If you watch Sat TV, you are going to be upset with the quality, because you will now see the compression. However, the HDTV broadcasts look amazing. So do Gamecube or Xbox using progressive scan (Xbox may have real HDTV games in future, above 480p resolution). And not to forget DVD, which will be amazing (get a progressive scan DVD player).

As a note, you can possibly do better at Sears if you find the right salesperson, they will pricematch web sites. (I ended up with something Sears normally sells for $4999, getting it for $2250 + tax, free delivery).

PPS: If you have stairs to go up, seriously consider one that comes apart!!! The Mitsu 65" splits in to two pieces, so you can make it around almost any bend.

I own the 50h81. I am NOT upset with sat quality. Make sure you use quality RG6 cable for your connection. Mine looks sweet. I have my PS2 hooked up thru the component cables and I am loving Baulder's Gate right now. It is the BEST electronic item I have purchased in years!! I got mine for $1850 including shipping and tax from my local Sears (internet pricematch combined with Sears' 10% off sale).

Ukemi, take that website printout and you can get it at your local Sears for that price plus tax.

Sears pricematching is great. I have gotten $400 knocked off a Sony camcorder before, and most recently I got an iPAQ 3635 for $339 ($160 below their price).

I have a Pioneer 53" and the sat quality was a little dissapionting at first. I upgraded the S-Video cable from my Dish box to the TV and it helped a bit, also a lot of tweaking with the TV helped. I would consider it to be of pretty good quality now. RG6 is required to be used from the actual Dish to the receiver, so that shouldn't be an issue, just make sure your Dish is adjusted so your getting a good signal. Also I have not looked at Toshiba widescreen, but make sure the mode that you will watch standard 4:3 format programming in will be satisfactory. I have heard some sets do not have a good mode to watch in, so you either get bars on the sides or a squished image. The Pioneer's have 5 modes to choose from, so just check out which ever set you are looking at.

There are hdtv sat channels. I think DirectTV has 2 or 3 running now. You need the dual pickup dish to receive them. (And of course the hdtv sat decoder box.) You may also get local hdtv. I have PBS broadcasting in hdtv in my area. You need a special hdtv antenna (funcking looking) to pick it up though.

This is a major purchase which you want to research thoroughly. I have been looking at the Toshiba's for a while now, and would recommend the HX81 series, for the reviews it has gotten.

I own this television and all I can say is it is well worth the price. I got mine from my local Sears (pm with crazy you know who). They delivered it to my living room and hooked it up all for $30. The picture quality IMHO is very good, and the set up was a snap, not like a lot of the others. To boot I got 18 months same as cash which even sweetened the deal more.
