$50 Credit for Opening Wachovia Free Checking Account ($100 Starting Deposit)

Didn't see this in a search, so, thought I'd go ahead and post it (First post also!).

You have to deposit $100 originally, and 60 days after the offer ends, $50 will be credited to your account. All of it can be done online as well. So, if you were planning on opening an account anyway, it's there.

Ends April 24th.

Enjoy!

I don't know. Free checking should mean free checking. Here's a link to the deal that actually states free checking and no minimum balance and no monthly service fees. You can also see the link that also gives you the 50.00 for signing up with the free checking.

I went back and looked over the application and it does seem like it is "free." It is strange how in the end you have to accept a form that states all the fees for accounts that you *aren't* signing up for. You should only be accepting account specific rules.

I signed up for the checking account but it did not sign me up for online banking (which will ideally allow me to make a deposit...). I tried to create an online banking account, but it asks for my check card and PIN, which I do not have and will not get because I chose not to sign up for it.

E-mailed customer service...

lol... 🙁

To update you, I finally got an online account created by talking to customer support. However, it does not appear to be possible to add funds online. My options are:

2. Visit a Wachovia Financial Center (Find a financial center near you: http://wachovia.via.infonow.net/locator).

3. Set up direct deposit through your employer.

4. Mail in your first deposit to one of the addresses below.

Regular Mail:
Wachovia Bank, NA
Attention: Mail Teller / VA3289
P.O. Box 26090
Richmond, VA 23260-6090

Express Mail:
Wachovia Bank, NA
Attention: Mail Teller / VA3289
4340 Innslake Drive
Glen Allen, VA 23060
Perhaps there is a way around this, but I'm not going to bother with it.

That's odd. Sorry you're having so much trouble with it, man. I had no problems with setting up online funding and was able to do it all in one session. 😕

I was about to finish applying and then saw this in the fees section:

Account Closing
Within 6 Months of opening
(checking and savings) ...............................................................................
..........................$25.00

big deal, just keep it open for 6 months with nothing in it. There is no minimum balance required so you can just empty the account once you get the 50 bones and wait a few months and cancel.

ya...kommies

My 2 post can be deleted, I edited them because wachovia closed my account based on a frivolous charge.
