Is it possible that you guys do not get 50 Cent?

No. He sucks.

50 Cent not only notches a fifth week atop the Billboard Hot 100 with "Candy Shop" featuring Olivia, but the rapper also becomes the first artist in 41 years to hold four slots on the top 10.

How dare they use those two words in the same sentence. May the same wrath strike them down as did Achille Lauro and they shall be lost forever.

My theory on the popularity of this music is that it's played primarily in clubs and people have good times there so they want to continue that feeling by listening to the music that they associate with it in their spare time.

I am 21 years old. I think 50 Cent is awful. I think the Beatles were terrific. I'm ready to concede that the music of my generation, on the whole, has been pretty disappointing.

It has nothing to do with talent and everything to do with promotion.

Let's see... how is the top 100 chosen?
Airplay.

Hmmm... who controls airplay?

If they wanted to, the major labels could pretty much force enough stations to play Barry Manilow 10 times a day and vault him to the #1 spot.

The Beatles had lots of fans because they were very talented and creative.

They also had huge numbers of fans because they were teen idols and the "next big thing", for awhile.

Besides that, The Beatles have EVERYTHING on him.

Sure, but let's see him take one to the chest, like the four that JL got.

Please, let's see it. :D

I don't like his music or what ever it really is but I can assure you that back when the Beatles were topping the charts, at least in their early days, a lot of those in the mainstream didn't like them either.

Can you honestly picture a functioning society forty years from now, wherein Half-a-buck is played on the oldies station?

One thing you have to take into account is that the Beatles didnt "collaborate" like modern rappers do. They had that many top 10 singles from an album, not from appearing on other people's record for a few lyrics.

Best post in this thread. 50 isn't the new Beatles, nobody is pretending that he is. You guys who are saying it is complete bullshit - what is complete bullshit? The fact that he is popular?

Grow up. He's just another popular rapper who is feeding this generations love of rap, just like bands in the 60s fed the country's obsession with rock and roll.
