50 8x DVD-R 14.50 NO rebates

CHECK IT OUT 50 GQ DVD-R @ fry's
I bought these before and I believe that these are really not 8x. I had trouble Burning at 8x, but 2-4x was fine. ENJOY!

GQ 4x spindle. They burn at 8x fin on my NEC 2500a with Herrie firmware fine. But on my 4x NEC some gave errors..... but it could of been just the disc and a coincidence.

what's the media code?

i've bought cheap media before and was severely disappointed (sonic DVD-R's) that were complete garbage. also, fry's GQ brand is less than stellar, i've had cd-r's purchased years ago that are now bad and no longer read.

I wish those were on sale in Socal. 🙁

I <3 GQ DVD-R media (Lead Data and Sony). I picked up 350 GQ (Sony) 2x DVD-Rs last month for $69.30. They burn at 4x with a modified Lite-On firmware.

I have plenty of 5-6 year old GQ CD-Rs and all still work. I've had discs fail, but it was because of mishandling and scratching the top side.

I bought the 25 pack GQ and they were Optodisc 8(DVD+R) and they worked great for me. I did a surface scan and file link check using Nero but burning at 2.4 speeds using a Pioneer 106. No errors and it ran on the Coby $25 DVD player perfectly...

GQ are very much hit or miss. I think the new Herrie Firmware with NEC2500A does better with these. If you value your time, it's worth spending a little more on better quality media.

The media is pretty consistent in each speed (4x/8x)/media type (DVD+R/DVD-R). My old burner, an NEC ND-2510A, had poor media compatibility with different brands, but worked fine with GQ 4x DVD-R (Lead Data) and 4x DVD+R (IS01 or CMC MAG). It gave pretty poor quality tests with GQ 8x DVD+R (Optodisc) discs and I haven't bought any GQ 8x DVD-Rs yet. I would assume the 2500A would get similar results with the current media hacked firmware.

But the problem was the burner, not the media. My old Pioneer 107 and now my Lite-On 812S (hacked to a DRU-700A) burn all the media I had trouble with on the 2510A just fine. In fact, even the cheap GQ $9.90/50 pack 1-2x DVD-R (Sony media) I bought last month burns great at 4x on my Lite-On.

its white topped. pretty amazing how these prices are dropping, cdr aren't worth it anymore. the 4x discs have this nice perfect mirror finish on top though. atleast i think it looks neat. which is more durable?

The white printable tops are much more durable but less flashy looking.

I bought the GQ 8X Dvd-R for 7.25/25pack yesterday at SJ Fry's to try them out. I first read the media code with DVDinfopro and they were TYG02 (yes, Taiyo Yuden). I looked up on DvdRhelp.com, here

As you can see there's a lot of 8 TYG02's. I looked on the inner part of the disk and I saw Matrix printed on there. The Matrix TYG02's are only commented once, otherwise 6 of the 9 brands on TYG02 are given good ratings. I burned a backup movie on my NEC 1300a with 1.0b FW at 4X and checked for errors with DVDinfoPro and there were zero errors.

I know this pack and spindle isn't on sale for 7.25 today but it's just a heads up for future purchases. don't know the media code for the 50 pack spindles of GQ 8X DVD-R. Maybe someone who bought one can check and post back.

You might be careful of "fake" TYG02s.

I know about the fakes. As the links states "the fake media has no brand marking and the company being faked sells only branded disks".

These are branded Matrix disks and I know they are a lousy brand, but I don't know how you fake a media code because digital FAQ states "it is the
Media ID that is important, as it reveals the disc maker."
