Saginaw ? (11/30/04)--The investigation continues into a disturbing sexual abuse case in Saginaw. The victim is a 5 year old boy.
And the abuser is the boy's male classmate. There is more information on the story.
The two boys were found in a bathroom near the gym. The boy who committed the sex act has been suspended from Morley Elementary School for 10 days while the incident is investigated.
His classmate is now at another school. But his mother is still upset the district isn't doing more.
To protect the 5 year old's identity, we're calling his mother "Janet." Her son was found with another 5 year old by a gym teacher last Tuesday inside a bathroom at Morley.
The classmate had his mouth on her son's private parts. Her son is now at another school, and is having trouble adjusting.
"He's a little iffy," she said. "I mean, you know, I will get that out of any other child going to another school. He was very quiet. He didn't know anybody."
The school district sent out letters to every Morley parent to alert them to what happened. School staff, a school psychologist and a social worker are retracing the steps to see what happened.
"This happened at a changeover time," said Saginaw schools spokesman Mike Manley. "Right after lunch, this group of students going to gym class ... it's during that period of time that this happened."
There is a district procedure in place that elementary students are escorted to the bathroom. An investigation is underway to see if that procedure was followed.
"This can happen in a moment's time," Manley said. "(We have to) make sure we understand what happened."
Janet is getting counseling for her son, and is upset no one from the district has checked in on her.
"They should be calling and asking me what's going on with my son," she said. "(They) act like they don't care."
As to if a teacher is to blame, the district says it's way too early to say if anybody was at fault, and will wait until the investigation is complete.
Child Protective Services is also investigating the home life of the 5 year old who committed the sex act.
