$5 Tuesday new movies anytime in Chicago

I'm not sure if General City cinemas has similar deal in other cities, but GC North 14 in Chicago (Western and Diversey) has a $5 Tuesday special: any movies, anytime with free parking and free small popcorn. This is not a bargain movie theatre, in fact they have the highest ticket price in Chicago right now for evening shows ($9).

Ah, looks like some good cheap market research going on here - "Let's see how many customers we've alienated with our outlandish ticket prices and consession fees, we'll compare this month's average Tuesday's box office receipts to the average daily receipts from last month."

Either that or the entertainment market is going soft right now in the city. This is pretty easy to figure when you can actually BUY the movie on DVD for less than the price of two tickets.

I live in the Cleveland, OH area, and all the General Cinemas around here have a movie and a small popcorn for $4 every Tuesday night. It's a great deal for all you Clevelanders 🙂

dude you're an idiot that really has no clue about business, especially about market research. you should just keep your sarcastic comments to yourself so that you dont get embarrased. that is the stupidest theory i've heard thus far on anything.

Nickb2b,

Actually the reason this theater did this was they were getting very little business during the week. Recently the Chicago area has had a glut of megaplex building. In particular at this theater, they thought they could charge extra for parking on top of the $9+ ticket price. Sure its a nice theater, and is one of only a few theaters in the country with a closed captioning system. But if you are already driving 20+ minutes to get to a theater you might as well go another 10-15 minutes and get free or cheap parking elsewhere. So they were left to draw from the local neighborhood, which can not support a 14 screen theater all week.

I don't know if any of you have heard about the AMC movie watchers program, but if it's in your city it kicks butt. In Omaha, you pay 17 dollars a month for a minimum of 6 months and can see 1 movie every day. If you use it to the fullest, you pay close to 50 cents a movie! Not to mention that the AMC 24 is the nicest theatre in Omaha.
