Not regulating cable companies is really spurring new businesses I guess it works, just not the way we want.

I have been fortunate to avoid Comcast for about 10 years now.

You know a company is so horrible to deal with when there is a service you can pay money so that they can deal with that company for you. :awe:

To cancel Comcast I took my STBs to the Comcast pay site and turned them in. It took 2 minutes at the window and they said I get a $20 check in the mail. It actually came within a week too! Maybe I just got lucky.

The internet said go to their pay center and they were right.

Yeah if I was in the states and had to deal with them that's what I'd do. Thankfully I've never had to deal with a company as bad as Comcast or Time Warner. We have our own monopolitic companies here but I've never had that bad of an experience compared to stuff I hear from the states.

Whoa...what a coinkydink! That's how I cancelled my Comcast account too...two separate times...and we're on opposite sides of the country!

I've had service with Comcast twice. I was happy with their service both times. The only reason I cancelled the first time was because the "deal" I had was expiring...and the price more than doubled. Otherwise, I'd have stayed with them. The last time I had to cancel my service was because we moved into an area served by a different cable company.
No problems at all cancelling my service.

My experience as well. I've cancelled 3 times, never had an issue. This is not to see the cable industry isn't a sham.

Are we talking about canceling during a 2 yr promotional period? Thought there is an early termination fee?

Don't know about you but Bell Canada is an absolute nightmare to deal with. Especially if you have an indie ISP that uses their lines.

My favourite Bell story is from my mom's friend. She moved into a new apartment and was supposed to get their FIBE TV hooked up. The Bell techs repeatedly stood her up on the service call. Kept claiming she wasn't at home when they arrived. Which was bollocks. Here's the kicker. My mom's friend works for Bell. Bloody arseholes can't even give their own people good service. An email to the CEO later and she got the issue solved in a day.

It's pretty alarming when a companies customer service is so shitty that they start charging you to not have to deal with them.

I'd sooner just look up online for one of their "non-bullshit" phone lines they give to some of their premium clients to circumvent the wait times and shenanigans.

They need to offer a service to deal with Comcast to lower your rates. I recently went through that and it was painful - long phone calls, being put on hold, etc... I went through retentions who would not give me a deal so I had them cancel my account asap. They didn't actually disconnect me and a week later they called back and offered me the same deal they refused to offer me the first time...

Figures. With service like that it's no surprise they're the worst company in America.

There is, but they will lie to you about how much it is. I canceled part of my service last weekend and had to deal with multiple CSRs to get it done. I got told by one CSR that it would be a minimum of a $160 fee (though he refused to give an exact amount) and he then spent 25 minutes trying to sell me literally every Triple Play option they offered in my area (and one they didn't). He also told me flat-out that he could not make any changes to my account prior to me returning any rented equipment (I've canceled Comcast enough times in the past to know this is bullshit). I talked to another CSR a few minutes later who said the fee was actually $25 and canceled our TV plan in less than 5 minutes (and gave us eight business days to return equipment). So it depends on who you talk to. If you get some CSR who is trying to meet a quota for customer retention, they will hit you with unbelievable amounts of bullshit to keep you on the hook.
