Besides software and optional connector adapters are there any other differences between the expansion and plus?

The main difference is the warranty. Expansion: 1 year, Backup Plus: 2 years, D3 Station: 3 years. They share in common the ability not to be shucked any longer. :)

I love the use of the word "shucked" in describing pulling the drive out of the enclose (shell)! I never heard it before reading it in the other deal thread for the 5GB expansion yesterday and instantly knew to what it referred.

Shuckability used to be the only thing that made Seagate external drives worth buying. Are the enclosures better made now than they were a few years ago.

Seagates still has no fan and poor ventilation. At least WD externals have enough ventilation holes. My 5TB WD external also had a Red NAS drive and extremely easy to disassemble, btw.

Externals are not only cooling inefficient, but power and data inefficient.... power: requires redundant power adapter, cooling: additional internal heat-generating PCB, data: USB3 vs. SATA3. Yet the vastly lower pricing reflects just how much they outsell internal drives. So the computer literate ultimately benefit from a good shuck. :)
