5 speaker setup on a macbook

Hey guys,

I tried doing some searching on google but couldn't really find anything relevant to what I'm trying to do. I have a 5 speaker Logitech system that I have hooked up to my pc soundcard fine because it has connections for all 3 cables I need to plug in. However, on my macbook there is only one connection that I can plug in to at a time, so I only get sound out of the center speaker, the two front speakers or the two rear speakers, depending on which cable I have connected. My question is this: is it possible to get sound out of all 5 speakers at once? If so, what is the cheapest way to do this?

What speaker set is it? If it's something along the lines of z-5300 you might have a "Matrix" setting that would give you fake surround from a stereo source.

If not,

Add an adapter

and you're good to go with stereo mapped to all speakers.

If you need true surround, you'd have to get some sort of external soundcard but I don't know anything about what would work with your mac.

Oh my gosh. Beautiful! That's exactly what I am looking for. This solves both my problem of being able to hook all 5 speakers up to the macbook but also being able to hook my wii up to my speakers! Thanks a ton for the info and links. I really appreciate it.

Indeed. Just remember that it's not true 5.1. If you want real 5.1, then you need a USB / FireWire sound card, that has drivers for x86 Mac OS X!

Yeah, I don't really care about real 5.1 because I don't even use the speakers in a 5.1 setup... hehe. I bought them because they were cheap and had good ratings, I simply want all 5 speakers to produce sound, and this fits the bill.
