yeah, Sam Walton knew his sh*t. Imagine if he was still alive, the kind of bankroll he'd have today. He could buy and sell Bill Gates.

It amuses me that so many bash the US, but if you'll notice, without us the world's economy would most likely crumble to pieces. I know that it's off topic but it just made me laugh that all but one of the top ten richest people are from the US, and the one who is not is actually two people posing as one. Hehe.

okay. merge with microsoft!

hey im getting the hang of this 😛

::walks into wal-mart::
"your family unit has changed, please call the microsoft for a new activation code"

Yeah..but those 5 are probably the only ones in the entire walmart hierarchy that have more $100 to their names ;-)

And people whonder why Wal-Mart fights to keep Unions out of Wal-Mart.

I use to work there a while back and they pay their people jack.

I use to work there a while back and they pay their people jack.

yet they're still able to find plenty of people who are willing to work there. Why should they pay higher wages when there's plenty of people willing to work for what they currently pay? That my friend is what we call COMMUNISM!

So true. If you didn't like what you were getting paid, you should have quit

The Walmart [Walton] family has been in the top ten most wealthy for the last 5 or 6 years, in the top 20 for a decade. What is "interesting" about it, that you didn't know?

lol! Walmart doesn't 'fight' to keep unions out of Walmart, Walmart employees deliberately send unions packing every time there has been a vote. You'd think the unions would get the hint by now, but we sent the union packing one place I worked (3 to 1 against) and I heard the union was recently sent packing again (some 6 years later) and the margin was no closer.

this doesn't mean there aren't things that the u.s. could do better.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I may have mis-heard) but I thought a couple months/years back that Wal-Mart got accussed of firing people who were trying to start a Union?
Again, I could be wrong...

Edit: Here's a link from a totally unbiased site.

Yeah, some "staunchly pro-union employees" were fired after attempting to bring a union in the place I worked, too. They were caught lying about the company and bashing its name and reputation in public and private circles. Try that where you work and see what happens....

I can only presume you wrote "totally unbiased" tongue and cheek. lol!

Here's how union rags twist the thruth: whenever employees vote in favor of a union, the union rags print "Employees of Shop X Let Their Voice Be Heard!" but when employees freely vote down a union the rags print "Employees Fearful of Being Fired or Physical Violence Vote Union Down". lol! As if no person would actually oppose a union on matters of principle. Hilarious.

A business should be able to fire anyone it wants to fire. That unions feel they have some sort of ENTITLEMENT to a job, and to dictate how the company is run is ludicrous.

Yes, you have every right to organize. No one is stopping you. However, the company should have every right to fire your ass if it sees you as a threat to it's business.

A union's ONLY bargaining chip should be organized strikes. And the company's bargaining chip should be the right to fire them all if they feel the cost of training a new workforce is less than appeasing unreasonable demands made by a union.

The job market should only be dictated by how much people are willing to be paid to do a job. If you don't like what you're being paid, find another job.

The fact that 5 of the top 10 richest people are from Wal-Mart just goes to show you that there's serious money to be made from white trash.

I could care less about Unions because I am unable to join one. Not because I work for Wal-Mart, but because I am a manager. Alos, just in case you didn't know, there is one Wal-Mart store up in Canada this is run by a Union because of what some dumbass employee said on TV.

Walmart tends to be abusive to suppliers and gets away with it because they are so large, the 500 lb gorilla of retail, it can sit whereever it wants.

how bout the fact that 9 out of ten are americans. is that suprising? it kinda is. or is it more surprising that 1 out of ten is not american?

does anyone realize how UNAMERICAN unions are?

from the jist of this thread you probably do, but based on economic theory, a UNION is a Monopoly of Employees.

the only way i could support unions were if there were competing unions in EACH industry. then it would make sense. I'm not totally against unions, just against the way they were abused.

<< I use to work there a while back and they pay their people jack. >>

Every retail store pays their people jack. If you expected any different then you need a reality check. Do you really think they will pay people top dollar to do easy, unskilled work? No way. I currently work as a cashier, it would be nice to make a lot of money but I know that is unrealistic. I'm a junior in high school and this is basically the best I can do for now, Wal-Mart may pay me jack but everywhere else pays less than jack.
