5 Hours to Install WinXP?!?

I've trying to do a clean install of WinXP Home on an 60GB IDE HD, its taking forever. Don't understand why? Every minute on XP's time remaining takes at least 10-minutes. It hasn't crashed, the XP wonder slide show still works as does the LR progress buttons.

Some backgound:
AMD 64, Winchester on a MSI Neo2F MB with a VIA chipset.
2 x 1GB DIMMs
The IDE HD is in a mobile rack, the HD is set to master on the primary IDE channel.

I've had the AMD 64 running on a 250GB SATA C: but I had problems burning DVD's because for some reason the SATA C: caused buffer underruns using Nero 6.6.x. Using the IDE HD for C: fixed the DVD issue, so I reformatted the HD to do a clean install to get rid of some flakyness, the copy of XP was from my old P4 CPU.

Any Ideas??? 😕

Figured out the problem . . .

I had the HD set to single even though I had it in a Master-Slave with the CD-ROM drive. After Window booted it was still slow as sin, that was the clue. I suspect that all my mobile rack HD's are set to single because I use they in USB enclosures. I'll sure be checking that soon.

My biggest problem is I only build a system/install an OS, once or twice a year and I forget all the subtles. 😱

Its :beer::30 🙂
