Enh. I've always been a bit leery about energy drinks. Most don't do anything for me anyway (though Bawls gave me the shakes), and I try to limit my caffiene intake (well, until I started this new shift, but I'm going to get back into my normal intake next week). I'll sometimes grab a Monster or a bottle of Bawls because I like the taste, but it's rare.

My old coworker used to swear by 5 Hour Energy and Monsters. Towards the end of my position, he'd start the day with a Monster, have one at lunch, and probably pop a 5-hour sometime in the afternoon alongside another Monster. Thankfully he tossed in some water here and there.

Caffiene wise, supposedly a 5-hour only contians the equivalent of one cup of coffee, which is around 100-135ish mg per 7oz serving for drip. A full can of monster is just more than twice that. So, I ballpark it at him intaking the equivalent of a pot of drip coffee in caffiene a day.

The main draw comes from the vitamins and other additives, presumably preventing a crash that comes with something like coffee or excessive carbs/sugar while contributing more alterness than caffiene alone. Though it has a hell of a lot of B-vitamins in it.

Anywho. I can't say I've ever really had the urge to try it. When I drink something it's for the taste, so unless it tastes good, I tend to not drink it.

Exercise often, eat decent food, and get 6-8 hours of sleep a night. That should be all you need.

For those few times that the above is not possible, caffeine is still my #1 choice. Soda and coffee all the way.

Edit: seriously, it's amazing what something as simple as doing 20-30 sit-ups and push-ups every other night can do for your energy levels.

Horrible! Knocked me our of hysterical laughter to 3 hours of strutting around in the end zone.

I drink energy drinks occasionally for the taste. I naturally have a lot of energy. I guess if I have an energy drink or 5 hour I feel a bit more hyped up, but I certainly don't need it. They just taste good to me.

That shit is nasty. It takes like concentrated cough syrup. I don't know who the hell would ever drink an energy drink for the taste.

Tried an energy shot one time. Tasted nasty as hell, and I ended up just taking a nap anyway.

Some energy drinks (like monster) are delicious though.

I like them. I've taken them 2-3 times, usually when on a long drive and I need to stay awake. I don't drink coffee, so maybe that's why they worked. Energy drinks like monster make me feel like shit and just make me more tired when they wear off. 5-hour just kept me awake like it says.

But I think their commercials trying to get people to use them daily are stupid. Then again I also think people who can't conceivably start their day without coffee are stupid too.

I drank half or the extra strength one when I drove across alligator ally at 11pm , I woke up at 3:30am that day. It worked pretty well but I will probably not take that again until needed. I donot want to rely on a drink to keep me awake

They seem to do what they advertise them to do in my experience. The reason I like them is because, unlike soda or coffee in the morning, they don't make me have to run to a toilet. Anyone who's been prairie dogging while stuck in rush hour traffic can see the benefit to that. But, they are a little pricey.

Both of these, but like anything else, people are prone to choosing the "quick fix". Too bad it's going to cause serious health problems for these folks in a decade or 2.

You are buying insanely overpriced caffeine pills. Your drink is like $1 but 200mg of caffeine is 5 cents. I know this because I keep caffeine pills in my car to ensure safe driving ;)

I've only used it in dire situations, and it definitely does its job for me. However, it makes me feel extremely jittery and it is obviously a "fake" sort of energy feeling. It's not really that pleasant, but it does do the job, so I'll probably use it again someday if I need to. Then again, my body is not acclimated to caffeine, so it probably affects me more than regular coffee drinkers.
