TextPayMe is a new service that is giving you $5 for signing up. It allows you to send money through your cell phone. I think Paypal has a similar service call Paypal Mobile where you can basically make transaction on your cell phone through text messaging. (And Google is probably doing the same thing now too to estalibish their own payment system for their possible eBay killer base.google.com).

OK... I haven't read anything about the company or service...

But why in the world would you want to be able to send money using only your cell phone? Now if you cell phone is stolen you have more to worry about that just cancelling your cell service...

 
There's a pin number you have to enter when you do send money. I guess they're thinking most people have their phones with them at all times .. and with all the technology in our cell phones, it should be or can be made a bit more secure than a piece of plastic right?

 
Right now, I think the service only allows you to pay other people through text messaging. Eventually, if this ever takes off, it might be something like a credit card where you can use it to get your everyday things. That's probably a long way off.

I don't think they're gonna do the $10 thing anymore ... missed out on that. $5 ain't bad 🙂 My friend who got me to sign up got a Xbox360 core ... so I think that's a little better than $10.
