Excellent deal if you could choose or actually want this selection of videos.

Yeah, because $5 for a DVD is such a rip off

I was not saying this was a rip off. The fact that the deal is limited to these selections is probably because Columbia House is overstocked on them, and there is the chance that people will buy something else as a member of the club rather than cancelling their membership immediately. If this deal was an enticement to join the club they would let you choose your selections from their website. This helps them reduce their inventory on these items. They aren't worth much sitting on their shelves collecting dust. Of course you could always sell them new and unopened on Ebay. BTW why would I pay $5 x5 for something I didn't want? Duh!

thanks!
good stocking stuffers for friends.

argh the rep person wouldn't shut up already, she just kept reading for over 3 minutes to herself and repeating repeating repeating!

No, it's dead - the one in this forum, anyway = code XB6D.

just so everyone knows the other deal for 7 dollar dvds is now DEAD!!!

is there anyway to use multiple address or credit cards and do this deal many times?????

anyone tried this yet?

Does anyone know about the quality of this release of GWTW? Is it widescreen? It would be tragic if it is. There were major problems with restoration for this movie, now over 50 years old and orginally filmed with 3 separate negatives, one for each major color. I saw it in 1967, a widescreen version that simply lopped off some of the picture and I walked out at intermission and didn't return. Never seen it before or since. Hope this is better... 😀

Edit: If this is the version reviewed here, I guess it might be OK:

Chapters: 56
Ratio: 1.33:1 (original fullscreen Academy ratio)
Sound: Dolby Digital 5.1
Technical Features: Scene selection, muliple languages and subtitles, and English for the hearing impaired.

Anyone try to see if they would let you shoose other selections. I don't realy want GWTW or Harry Potter.
I would probably watch Shrek once. And I am holding out for the collector's edition of LOTR with the extra footage. Excellent deal if you could choose or actually want this selection of videos.

shrek was alot better than i expected, gonna give away harry potter and LotR tho (have both editions of LotR, yes, im a sap, go away)

oh, the operators job must suck

So your point is that this isn't an "excellent deal" because it's not for something that you're personally interested in?
Well here's a newsflash conehead, that can be said about every single Hot Deal in this forum.

Go thread-crap somewhere else.

Thanks. Great deal, got in...

I hope I get them before Xmas. I am sure my nephews would want LOTR (I already have mine) and Harry Potter. I might keep Shrek and Gladiator and my mom would like Gone w/ the Wind. 🙂

What exactly is your problem? I would be all over this if I could get five DVD's that I want and cancel my membership immediately. I absolutely hate those dated reply cards and automatic shipments if you fail to respond in time. Actually, I will probably be joining Columbia DVD under their regular deal so I can choose the DVD's that I want. I received an offer through MyPoints recently where I can get 3500 MyPoints by joining Columbia House DVD. That many points are worth appr. $25 at Circuit City or other participating merchants in the MyPoints program. And yes, I will have to purchase several DVD's to fulfill my membership obligation. At least I will get the selections I want! I went to rent some DVD's and in the town I live in and at the video store LOTR, Spiderman, MIB II were not available in widesceen. When I asked the clerk if they were available in that format, she told me that they weren't made in widescreen.
Now you can see why I want to be able to buy DVD's. I guess I am paying a penalty for living in a small town. At least the chain that she works for could let their employees know that just because they don't have it in widescreen doesn't mean it wasn't made in widescreen.

Ordered 12/06 and received 12/23. Just in time for the holiday movie marathon...or last minute wrapping.

Thanks again for posting this deal.

Happy Holidays!

I ordered mine a few weeks ago and recieved them within 2 weeks. HP and LOTR are the widescreen versions. Shrek and Gladiator are widescreen, of course, and GWTW is pan and scan since that's how it was released. GREAT deal---even if you already have some of them. Resell the ones you don't want/need and make this deal even better than $5/each. You can even cancel your CH membership immediately over the web so you don't have to mess with their mailings.

I got my 5 DVD's in time for Xmas. Great deal. However, just watched LOTR the other day and found a problem with DVD. Couldn't read Track 24. Called Columbia and they are "this one time only" sending me a replacement DVD. Probably just an isolated case, but a heads up to those who got these DVD's. The rest of them seem fine though.

Deal still on, I have to remember to cancel my membership as SOON as I get these DVDs, I've heard horror stories about columbia house

Thanks for the bump. I don't remember seeing this before.

Columbia House isn't that bad -- certainly not deserving of "horror stories", in my opinion. Yeah, I got a DVD sent that I didn't want, but I sent it back and got my CC automatically credited. It was basically hassle-free.

You guys that received your DVD's and then called to cancel your membership...any hassles from HSN when trying to do so?

Just curious.

i just received mine today. i tried calling but they were already closed. i don't think we have to go through HSN. just columbia house. as with the previous CH deals ive done, cancelling is painless. theyve sent me a few more postcards for directors selections (that confused me) ... but then i called in to recancel and they said that dont worry about it, those were the last ones i was gonna get. so yea ... dont worry about it. call CH and you wont have to worry about HSN at all. and if you got balls, do it again and make some money on half.com. =)

I got these DVDs a while back. I canceled after I got the DVDs. hassle-free. They were very nice about it. I just canceled my account online. Very easy.
