i have a 5 connection Ide cable can i hook all my hard drives to this one cable if not can i hook my cd drives and my zip to it?

Are you sure that's not a SCSI cable?

I've never seen an IDE cable with more than 2 connectors in my life (well 3 if you count the one that attaches to the controller). And IDE only supports master/slave.

could be a typo..

a single controller can only support 2 devices, master and slave.

perhaps they are trying to pull the wool over non techies?

take a picture for us compnerd if you can...

the fact is, even if it is a 5 head 40 pin IDE cable, its pretty damn useless, your wasting 2 of the heads 🙂

all IDE cables should only have 3 plugs, one for the controller, 2 for drives. any extra plugs are worthless, since the controller can only handle 2 drives.

don't tell me you wasted your money on that cable?

return it, and cry foul.

I have seen - or to be specific, at my former work we have IDE-cables with 4 connectors (5 counting the mb-connector). I have wondered for quiet some time what these cables are used to?!?.

AoD 😉

The only possible use I see for it is to allow you a little more flexibility in where you have your drives. If you have your two drives together, you can use the two end connectors. If you have a hard drive in the lower cage and a cdrom in an upper rack, you can use the two that are farthest away from each other. Only use I can think of. Would be worth an extra dollar in a tight case I guess.
