Kinda new to the network forums here, so I'll try to include as much as I think you guys need to know :/
Operating Systems
All OSs are either XP home or XP Pro.
Network Setup
Two PCs directly hardwired with Cat5 cable to router.
Three other PCs (problem one included) and a laptop on wifi from Belkin 802.11B router.
one other PC on phoneline network from problem PC .
Therefore I have 6 desktops, one laptop networked.
Problem description
4 of the desktops (two hardwired (two desk), two wifi (one lap, one desk) can read and write to eachother's hard drives just fine.
The problem PC is connected to the network wireless, and the other desktop is connected to it via phoneline network.
The problem is the fact that the problem computer can read every computer on the network, it can write data to them, can access the internet, etc. However, none of the computers can read, write, or access any services available on it.
This wouldn't be so much of a problem except for the fact that I have a laser printer\ scanner all-in-one, and a color photo printer attached. Due to the locations of the other PCs around the house, it is somewhat unconvient to have a large printer set-up near it. So, I would prefer moving the printers around to be a last resort secondary to reformat\reinstall.
I've narrowed the problem down to the window operating system itself.
All wireless computers were connected using Belkin USB 802.11b adapters, until faulty USB plug wiring in one of the computers led to uh... 'sizzling', so to speak, of one adapter
Wireless connectivity was restored using a MS 802.11G PCI card. Card is great, can read everything, still however, nobody can access said computer.
I don't consider myself to be an idiot around computers and have networked at least 15 of various operating systems quite a few times. However, I've never come across the problem I'm experiencing.
Problem
When I attempt to access the computer to see a general list of what all is shared, printers, folders, etc. I get a log-on screen that requires a password. The user account is locked in as ComputerName//GUEST. Currently I can not change the account to log in. I've tried blank passwords, and every password I would normally use, plus a few others that I have used once or twice.
I have tried re-running the MS NSW quite a few times, ensuring workgroup, WEP key, channel, SSID and everything are properly configured, etc. However, I can't seem to get rid of the logon screen.
I've tried checking and unchecking, rebooting after each for the "Allow access using guest account if computer information unavailable" and the similiar options on the authentication screen without success.
Cliff Notes:
One PC can read everything, but nothing can see what's on it due to required logon of which I never (intentionally) created.
