He probably knew of the laboratory's secret basement, where Tesla's really impressive inventions were stored. It also happens to be one of those rooms that's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. Most people tend to be jerks. It just depends on what social factors and environment they are in.
For example, how many really nice people become complete jerks when behind the wheel driving on the road?
How many caring and giving people become complete jerks to their employees when they are in a lead position?
How many members here become jerks when an opportunity to put someone else down or how they force opinions..etc in various threads?
