I think I found an even better VCD solution. This gizmo seems to be a simple snap-on card that requires no internal modding. Hasy anyone had any experience with it?

But for 65 dollars you would be better off buying a personal portable mp3,cd,vcd player like the one someone posted awhile ago.

I think you're missing a pont here; there are plenty of portable devices that play DVD/VCD/MP3 but none of them will let you play Playstation games.

Umm I think you are missing the point here, that thing cost $65 and it is not a standalone playstation. A "personal" portable mp3/cd/vcd (the size of a personal cd player) cost I think $74 for the one post ealier in this forum, less if you look around . So you will need a playstation either way, but with a mp3/cd/vcd player you can actually use it as a mp3/cd/vcd player on the side.

Yes, I know that I still need to buy PS on top of that, but IMO an extra $40-50 is worthwile investment to be able to play hundreds of games. So we're looking at roughly $150-170 for a PSOne with LCD screen and VCD adapter. Not a bad price for a portable all-in-one gaming/entertainment solution. I know, it will not play MP3's, but I can live without it. IMO the ability to play games and watch VCD's outweigh the benefits of listening to MP3's.

I bought two of these at the Fry's in Manhattan Beach, CA. I saw about 15 of them in various parts of the store. I also bought a Lenmar PRO37 universal AC adapter for $20.00. The packaging states that it is for Digital Cameras. It is adjustable from 3V to 7V and 2.1A. I looked at every AC adapter they had in the store and this was the only one with more than 1A. The screen requires 7.5V, but I thought I would give it a shot anyway and it worked. I bought the adapter so that I could test and play with the screens right away. I eventually want to put one screen in a case and one in my truck. This adapter won't help me in either project, so I will take it back within 30 days. I found it on an endcap in the TV section. The sku is 3316742.
I also noticed the ghost image with asian characters. This can be seen when the screen is showing a light background. It is not too big a deal as others have stated. I ran a DVD player into it and was surprised how good it looked. I did not see the ghost image when the DVD was playing. I noticed one dead pixel on each screen. I showed the screens to two people and they could not find the dead pixels. They also could not see the ghosted background (burn in?) unless I brought up a completely white screen. These screens are definitely worth $50.00.

Mine doesn't have any burn-in and works well with a 7V 1.8A adapter from my Kodak DC200. It was the closest I could find in the house. Great picture, adjustments are a little flaky but work. Only complaint is that it has a rubber circle bumper on the bottom of the "stand" that makes it hard to balance the thing on a table.

Instead of buying a 7.5v power adapter you could use your own PWS on your computer. Just use the 12v yellow wire for power (+) and a red 5v for gound (-). Nice 7 volts. If you look @ the PS1 power plug you will se it is rated for 7.5 volts but it will put out anything between 6.5 and 9 with PWS regulation happining inside the unit, so you should be fine.

I will try with mine as soon as it comes. Damn out of stock :)

It's about time someone else mentioned this! I was scrolling through the 6+ pages at HOCP where they were *all* talking about hacking up $40 PSOne car adapters. I started thinking maybe I was stupid or something.
I thought they were quicker than that over there... ;)

Ha. Were you reading the same thread? Before Evadman mentioned it, it had already been mentioned at LEAST twice (IIRC).

I did not see it mentioned and I read the whole thread, but no one is perfect. ;)

I did see a reply to my message over there saying not to do it as an LCD needs a true gound? This is something new that I have not heard about. 7 volts is 7 volts.

I am not an EE student, but I do have more than a passing knoledge on electrical circuits. I trust myself enough to try it on my own screen as soon as I get it. As I said above, I will LYK.

I was under the impression that they were talking about buying the car adapter, cutting off the lighter-plug end, and then wiring *that* to the 12V line from the power supply.
Perhaps I misunderstood them? :D

Edit: It has been a day or so since I read that thread. Maybe someone else snuck in there!

Well maybe I should have put a smiley, it wasn't an attack on any of you guys. Anyway I was hoping to get some sort of ideas for neat projects to do with this LCD. I wanna learn how to be one of those D-I-Y project-type 3l337s. :)
GUYS CHECK THIS OUT!

IS IT BETTER? (it's smaller but I mean is it higher quality?) What resolution can each of these display?

There are about five to six of this at Sunnyvale Fry's, near the game console section. I will go pickup one myself tomorrow. :)

I stopped by my local Electronic Boutique tonight for an ac adapter but found out that they were selling pre-owned PSOnes for $35. They're $40 on the website so this may be local only (Carlsbad, CA). Since it includes the adapter you're essentially getting a PSone for about $15-$20 dollars with a dual shock controller. Even if you never use the PSone it's worth it for the adapter, controller, and convenient stand for the display. ;-)

BTW before deciding I wanted a separate adapter I was also using the yellow and red wires off my computer's power supply. Worked fine for several days without any problems but I wanted a separate adapter to be able to use without the computer.

OK, here is the meaning of the asian characters - ' The one and the only grand master'. I think it's from a Japanese Mahjong game title.

Anyway, it hard to see them when playing DVDs and VCDs.

I also hooked it to my Dreamcast and it's pretty cool, I can see all the characters clearly and not much ghost image. Could be a pretty cool toy when driving long range.

This whole Asian Character background ghost image thing really has my curiosity. Is it possible for LCD's to get burn in? I thought not, but I aint no expert. Maybe the game was left on too long in the factory (testing?). I don't know, this whole thing seems wierd. These screens have 90 day warranties, so maybe this might be covered under the warranty? Exchanging it through Fry's is useless because they all have this ghost image and Fry's would just give me another. I think I'm going to call the manufacturer and find out what the deal is. I still think it's worth $50 like I said in another post, but it's the principle of the thing... what the hell is up with quality control these days?

One other note is that the car adapter is available at EB (Electronics Boutique) for $15. I bought the last one at the Galleria in Redondo Beach CA. It's also on the website. I saw this info somewhere and just thought I would pass it along.
