Pretty cool deals, except for the Polaroid BurnMax 24x10x40 ending up at $99. Not a good deal, especially next to the other burner deals.

Thanks for the preview!

Polaroid External burner is a fantastic deal for a 24X external. I'm all in for it once it arrives.

Is this gonna be a B&M ONLY kinda deal... Sorry for my ignorance but haven't dealt with OM much.

The Polaroid burner is on the site for $179.99 right now. On 5/5, combine the sale price, MIR and a nice $25 off $100 code and... ;)

Anyone have any experience with the Hi Val cdr drive?

Who makes the actual driver, how good is it etc?

Been looking to upgrade my old 4x cdr drive and the price looks right on that one.

hey you all ...before you run out and buy the polaroid external..its btc drive inside..each and every one of them...dont even touch it with a ten foot pole...its not worth it..i bought it the last time around and ended up returning it ..the drives are just too crappy..
you are better off buying a USB 2.0 external case for abt 60 shipped and buying a cendyne cd rw to put inside.

do a search for the last polaroid threads ..they ll tell you all about it !

ok after rebates and coupons the Cendyne 32x12x40 CD-RW can be had for $45 and the Hi-Val 24x10x40 CD-RW can be had for $35. Which is the better quality drive (for the money)? Any rebadged plextors in there perchance? ;)

Hey everyone, lets try and see if we can get this Cendyne for any cheaper.. Any thoughts or ideas for combining coupons and MIR's? Please PM me or email me if you have any ideas.. By the way... this looks like a pretty fast burner, especially if we can get it for cheap!

<< he said the polaroid burner is an EXTERNAL :) >>

Sorry, didn't read carefully. That is good!!! That means you should be able to pick it up for about $80 (total including tax) after the $25 off $100 coupon and the rebate.

Hope this appears on their web site.

Thanks!!!

If it wasn't clear from some of the other posts, the Polaroid external drive is USB 2.0.

As far as which is better: Cendyne 32x vs Hi-Val 24x

I would go with the Cendyne (which is what I bought). You have a VERY high chance of getting a Lite-on (which I did).

As far as getting it cheaper, look into using Staples coupons at OM B&M. Here is what I did last week:

$129.99 (Cendyne 32x) + $39.99 (Spin-X 100 CDRs) = 169.99 + tax (6%) = $180.18

$180.19 - $30 (Staples $30 off $150) - $40 (Spin-X rebate) = $110.19

On Sunday I went back to OM and PMed Staples price for the Cendyne drive of $99.98. They gave me 115% of the difference back ($34.51), plus I got a receipt dated on the 28th so I could use the $40 rebate for the Cendyne drive (instead of $30 when I bought it).

$110.19 - $34.51 - $40 = $35.68

Finally, I used a new Discover Platinum card which gives me a $35 credit on my first use.

$35.68 - $35 = 0.68.

I have a BTC and it works great. Burned many cds and never have any problem. Maybe just for me.

BTC is some no name Chinese mfgr of CDRW drives. Down sides incl. possible high CPU usage during burning (>10%), incompatibility with burning progs, and crapping out early (ie no more workie), according to posters.

I bought one in a Pacific Digital box (hoping for a liteon) for a machine I put together for somebody and still feel sort of bad about it. However, the drive has worked passably well for general data and music burning for the owner. Will not do copy protection, is my understanding, but I didn't try it.

Thanks for the heads up Rileyrr - always appreciate these ad posts & don't always stop to say so.

Hi everyone, I bought the Polaroid 32X drive which is the BTC. I think they're going to be next Lite-ons. It's very fast, very quiet, and very CD-Clone compatible. So far I've burnt 9 disks (no problem), backed-up a bunch of SD-2 protected games (no problem) and formatted some CD-RWs. It reads sub-channel data as well as replicating the "magic bits" accurately. I don't know if it does the protected music cds but I wouldn't buy those anyways. The only down side is no reliability history.

Hope this helps.

<< I've never had a problem with BTC. but I've never tried to copy copyrighted cd's though >>

My exact experience as well, my 24x10x40 Pacific Digital works fine, fast and has successfully copied disk to disk. For $49.95 after coupon and rebate, I am well pleased with mine. Maybe they have improved over time?
