Well, put it this way: the stock SGS2 can be used on AT&T with no changes.

hmmm, but this is the international version right? Im guessing when it comes here it might be re-branded like the captivate, fascinate, etc. Obviously no 3G would be a deal breaker.

Thinking about caving in on the infuse. Its got a big beautiful screen, which would come in handy since I've been reading books on my phone lately (currently using a captivate) 1.2 single core might be just as good as dual core for the time being. What apps are really going to take advantage or dual core?

I have been looking at this phone recently. After a 3 hour "it won't do that"-fest with my iPhone I have decided to switch to Android on my two year cycle. I like this phone because:

1. It is the first AT&T phone that allows sideloading, so I don't have to root it day 1 if I don't want to. I want AT&T because *SHOCK* their service is hands down the best in my area.

2. Now that I am leaving iWorld behind, I want a large screen and I want it yesterday.

3. Deep down I am a huge Samsung fanboy.

The main things holding me back are the actual phone specs (single core and 512mb RAM kinda sucks for a phone I won't replace for two years) and the fact it doesn't seem that popular, so I might not get the awesome third party Android support I have come to enjoy on my Nook.

The obvious choice for many is to wait for the Galaxy 2 S, but if it hits in something like November that will be too late for me plus I have a sneaking suspicion that the AT&T version isn't going to get the same community love other versions get. Obviously another (maybe better for the long term) option is an Atrix, but part of the reason I am getting an Android phone is I am sick of having to hack capabilities onto my phone that it should have by default and that seems to be the Atrix motto.

So I am crazy to want this phone? Is it a lame duck device?

Thanks for setting me straight. I think Captivates are kinda ugly so I will just sit on the sidelines for the Galaxy 2 S.

Me too and for the same reasons as you. The thought of being stuck with single core and 512MB for 2 years is really beginning to concern me.

There's also the moto atrix, dual core and 1gb of ram and its available now. But ya i'd wait for the sgs2 too.

I went to go look at one of these today, and played with it for 15 minutes in the store.

The screen was amazing. It was big and had the super saturated colors that I have come to love on my plasma TV. Compared to the Samsung Captivate with a normal Super AMOLED, text looked way clearer. Text also looked clearer than the Atrix (and the screen overall looked 1000% better than the one on the Atrix). Pentile really does suck I guess.

I really like the design of the phone, it looks classy like my wife's nicer iPhone case. She is a 100% iPhone fan but even she said "damn that Samsung phone is nice" after we left. Speakers seemed plenty loud enough, and the camera was downright excellent. I mean, it put my one and a half year old $200 point-and-shoot to shame. I also confirmed that it did have the checkbox for outside sources (THANK GOD).

I am glad that I went to go look at one of these. I have been kinda kicking myself for not getting an Atrix considering that its dual core, $99 and here today. But after seeing how that Super AMOLED+ looked compared to the Atrix I now am content to wait for the Attain.

Good to hear. The infuse is the phone I'm tossing around in my brain to replace my iphone. If I was eligible for upgrade I'd probably switch easy, but having to sell the iphone to get the money for the Infuse is the issue. All I need is somebody just wanting to trade with me :p

Right now the non-contract price for the Infuse is $589.99. I really really think that the SGS2 will come to American before the iPhone 4GS, at which point the out-of-contract price for the Infuse should quickly drop below $500. Since the new iPhone won't hit yet, you can sell yours for maximum value and come out even easily.

Honestly the Infuse was a very nice phone, I thought was smooth and fluid (even with Live Wallpaper)- a step above an overclocked Nook Color. I am waiting for the SGS2 to maximize my upgrade value, but if I was buying off-contract the Infuse would be at the top of my list...

[Samsung Rep] Of course!

Samsung is showing it is not playing around anymore. 2.3 comes to the epic in a couple weeks, the leaks are already out. Also, Samsung has donated a SG2 phone to the CM7 team to use for deving CM7 on it. What other mantufacturer is now donating phones to the dev community?

Not just one: I think all the major AOSP devs got one. And supercurio, the central connective figure of SGS (all models) modding, was offered one, but he bought one previously and asked for a new Tab instead. ;)

Speaking of supercurio, Voodoo Sound should be supported on the Infuse any minute now.

When using the phone that's the last thing you think of, i've had the phone for a couple of days and the lack of a higher res screen never bothered me.

Seems like they're learning from their mistakes, too bad they're not giving the drivers source code to the cm guys, they'd have it up and running in no time.

Actually I want that res on an Android phone. My high res Nook Color has shown me how badly some programs (Chuzzle for one) come apart at higher resolutions, and qHD isn't an official Android resolution yet.
