5,282 3d marks in 3dmark 05 free edition

Comparing with others, it doesn't seem so great...

AMD XP 2.1ghz 400fsb
1gb corsair xms, 512mb x 2 @ 400fsb, dual channel
audigy 2
BFG 6800 GT OC @ 406/1.06 drivers 71.84

ideas on how i can improve my score? higher o/c's than that, and it would artifact..

Are you sure you got that high in 3dmark05? Last time I ran it (actually the only time), I only got ~4300, and I have a faster CPU (AXP @ 2.4GHz) and basically the same video card (6800GT @ 400/1100). My score was probably actually a little low, but still, I think your score is perfectly fine. 🙂

Wow.. I didn't realize that it was a decently high score 🙂

But yea, that's it. At factory clock, it did around 4982 or so... Well I say factory clock, but I'm talking about the 370mhz BFG clocks the 6800GT at.

Also, that was with a high system temp. I had my side panel on, and idling the card was sitting around 60-70*C with an ambient temp of high 50's 😱

I took the side panel off, and the ambient temp dropped to low-mid 40's and card temp to low 50's 😱

Gona try again tonight with some different drivers...

Forgot to mention, the PSU is an antec trupower 430w unit..

I get around those same speeds....

I've seen almost 5600 when I over clock to those 400mhz/1.08 speeds....

🙂

I forget what my score was, but it was in the mid 5000s. Seems pretty decent to me.

To drop the GPU temps, use the XG drivers, and if you're up to it, pop the stock cooler and put some AS5 on the GPU and some new goop on the ram.

I run my Leadtek 6800GT at stock clocks, and it was hitting 86*C(that I saw), then locking up my system in CS:S. Popped the HSF and put some AS5 on there, and ran a GPU testing program for 45 minutes, and it only(only, heh) hit 84*C, and dropped 4 degrees as soon as I killed the program. I also switched from the nVidia 71.84s to the XG version at the same time, so I'm not sure which had more of an effect.

Seems right to me....I have only a 6800NU with only 12 pipes enabled and clocked lower then a GT without DDr3 and I get like 4400's....

3dmark05 is gpu dependent app and has less to do with the system and cpu anyways...

I managed a mid 5900 score. . . new setup.

3.0ghz P4, w/ 1gb PQI turbo memory, and a 9800PRO all sitting on an ECS PF1 deluxe. Stock everything, with the only exception being a Masscool HSF setup w/ AS5 on it. I doubt the AS5 has fully set in the two days, not too many cycles yet. Anyways, will edit with the real score once I get off of work.

That's a 3dMark03 score, not a 3dMark05 score you posted.

OP, your score is very good given 6800Ultra barely breaks 5000.

Well, being at work right now I don't honestly recall what 3dmark software / version I have installed on my home box. But that being said, I only downloaded it about a month ago. How else could you tell, without me telling you directly, that that is a 3dmark03 score as opposed to 3dmark05? thxs

3.4Ghz P4E, with a Gainward 6800 GT GS@400/1100, 1GB DDR400 Dual Channel, scores 5436. I could probably push that up a little bit more if I reformatted but . . . meh.

thanks for the replies guys

with a lower ambient temp, and taking the card to 407/1.07, i got 5,348 3dmarks 🙂

time to pull off the stock cooler, and apply some AS5 to the core 🙂

any tips on what to apply to the memory chips? AS5 as well?

Was first test a flight sim test? If it is then that is 03

I will not go near it. If it works, and I see very well, don't try to improve it with that bs. You will either fit it on wrong and end up with artifact city with a voided warrenty, or end up running it at stock speeds. HSF's on a GPU fit differently than a CPU socket; they were not made to be removed and reassembled as easily. AS5 will likely get you an extra 5-10 Mhz out of your over clock, there is no point in risking it.

And I get 5100 points with a 400/1100 clocked eVGA 6800GT with a 2.4 GHz A64 with 1GB corsair in 2-3-3-8 1T in Dual channel.

5900 is a score of 9800Pro in 3dmark 03. Nvidia cards are 4700-5200 points; ATI cards 5500-5800 in 3dmark05.

Was it really worth it to overclock 30Mhz and lose the life-time warranty? I wouldn't do that especially that the card comes overclocked anyway. I would only do that after a year or two when my card starts to show age signs.
Anyway, your score seems perfect. What driver set are you using? New drivers have increased the performance noticably in 05.

I wonder how I scored higher than you!?!?

I had 100mhz less, but the same clocked GT.

What drivers were you using?!?!

watch out, the overclock police are in the house 🙁

i was using driver set 71.84

gonna try out the newer beta drivers tonight, methinks

I reformated since I tested them. But I think they were from 3-4 months back. Does it really matter?
