Hi guys I think its time for some new speakers. I do alot of gaming with my pc, and its also how I listen to music in my room, and I listen to a decent amount of music. I've been told that sometimes 2.1 is better for music and 5.1 is better for gaming.

Ive been looking at:

Logitech Z-2300 2.1 Speakers $90
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16836121122

and

Logitech X-540 70 watts 5.1 Speaker
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16836121006

So my main question is, what will suit me best? Is one truly better then the other for certain tasks? The 2.1 is 200 watts, and the 5.1 is 70 watts does that make a difference? Any help, opinions, or links you guys could throw my way would be great. Thanks.

Depends on how much you value good sound quality and details in your music.

If you're the kind that likes to just crank up testosterone loaded song and feel the bass pulsing through your veins with a big powerful sound, then I wouldn't worry about getting higher quality speakers and just go with the 5.1.
But if you like to listen to the crispness of the voilin, or the subtle acoustics of the room, I'd go with a higher quality 2.1 set. I'd recommend the Klipsch 2.1 over the logitechs too.

But 2.1 is much more suited for music as music is recorded in stereo. If you get the 5.1 speakers, you might even prefer to run them as 2.1 for your music.

Another thing you could do is to buy a nice set of 2.1 speakers, and just get a cheap set of $10-20 2.0 speakers for the surround.

If you want to save money, I would check out ebay or classified listings for used speakers. I got a set of Klipsch 2.1 for $60 shipped off ebay for my gf. Looks new, sounds new, no complaints. :)
