I'm looking to get a set of speakers for xmas but don't know which Logitech setup to get.

Logitech Z-2300 2.1
or
Logitech THX Z-5300e

Both have great reviews on the egg but I want to know how much of a difference would a 5 speaker setup be to just 2 speakers? I'm not exactly hurting for desk space but I don't really need to be "emerced" in the action while gaming. What do you suggest?

If you don't need the immersion of a surround setup, maybe you should consider some better 2.0/2.1 speakers, such as from Klipsch, Creative, or Altec Lansing. Your music enjoyment would also improve.

Ever since Newegg started censoring their reviews, they've lost all credibility. I submitted a poor but blatantly honest review that I thought followed their guidelines, and yet they refused to post it. Grr...

Altec Lansing MX5021... beautiful speakers in the price range. Otherwise, the Z-5300e. It's good for 5.1, but only if you need 5.1. Otherwise, the MX5021 is a much better buy (which is what I did). Hehe, I'd rather have 5.1 for my Ace Combat for the PS2 rather than in the computer anyway.

Can you get the surround speakers to the side or in back of you?

If they're all pretty much going to be in front of you, then I'd say for sure get a 2.0 or 2.1 setup.

Yoyo, got an OT question. Did you manage to use high impedance headphones on the AV710? How did it sound?

The highest impedence I had were 64ohm Senn HD-280s and that worked well enough for me.

I don't know offhand and I don't have the manual in this city. Maybe they'd have it on the Sennheiser website for you.
