They are pretty easy to set up, they can be set up pretty much anywhere aslong as you have space behind you to mount the rears.

IMHO, anything beyond 2.1 for a PC is just silly. Where the hell would you place all those speakers? Maybe i have never had an area that is conducive to this arrangement, but if you want surround just put on some headphones.

I wanted to get a Logitech Z-2300 set. But I don't know how good they are for gaming in terms of identifying were sounds are coming from. I play a lot of FPS games.

I've always made room for my speakers and my room asthetics have taken a back seat :p Luckily my current speakers are pretty attractive so it's less of an eye sore.

I've seen lots of photos people have taken of their desks and it seems like upwards of half of the 4.1 and 5.1 sets I see are arranged in a line in front of the listener. I really don't get the point of that. If the situation would be to either get a cheap 5.1 set and have them all in a line or get a higher quality 2.1 set, then I'd recommend getting the 2.1 set.

You can wall mount speakers, put them on stands, place them on furnature around the room... if you can find a way to get the speakers where they are supposed to be, games are a lot more immersive.

Dolby has some diagrams of idea speaker positions for 5.1 and 7.1 systems along with tips for placement.
